HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILL COLE

Recommended Posts

A tribute to Bill. I've never met you but I've read a lot about you. I noticed it was your Birthday today... so happy birthday.

I justify posting this here instead of in Politics, Boobies and Religion ... [cough] I mean Talkback because of the shear amount Bill has done in the sport. I think this thread therefore ought to be in a skydiving forum. Besides, Bill Cole IS Canadian Skydiving despite the despicable long time CSPA suspension.

If you have no idea who I’m talking about, shame on you... he's done more stunts and held more records than you've had hot meals. Check out some of the web sites about his exploits such as the infamous "chuteless" jump or his toying with 25' risers. Go learn about one of your sports founding fathers:Over The Edge.

And to top it all off, he's one of our very own DZ.commers:Chuteless

Happy Birthday Bill.

thanks to all you fine people. I'm amazed that so many of you are intrigued by the things I did.

I really never expected when I did them, that 30 yrs later anyone would remember or care.

I sincerely thank you all, and May God bless each and every one of you.

Happy Birthday, Bill.

Regarding skydiver rememberances of historical feats of the past... I think that skydivers might be the last bastion of society that remembers and respects the accomplishments of its elders.

The things you guys did paved the way for the rest of us. Without guys like you, Bill Newell, Bob Buquor, Bob Sinclair, Lew Sanborn, etc., jumping out of planes would still be a military insertion technique.

Nothing makes me happier than to see some twenty year old hot shit canopy pilot immersed in a conversation over a beer with a member of Jumpers over Seventy. Not some superficial conversation out of respect, but deeply engrossed in what the elder is passing on to the next generation and in turn; generations to come.

Some day, that 20 year old will be standing around as a member of JOS in the year 2053 telling some then 20 year old about the time he got to talk with Bill Cole.

One generation passes it on to the next. Its how our lineage will continue. Its why our logbooks are so important. It is a chronology of our history.

I would sincerely like to thank all those who posted birthday greetings to me for yesterday. I am a very emotional person ( I am still having problems with the disasters on " Little House On The Prarie" and feel truly blessed that so many of the world's skydiving "family" cared enough.

Sometime I relate things that happened years ago, and I hope these items may help someone active in the sport today....I sure hope so.

You guys and gals really made my day one to remember....the best I've ever had in the entire 71 yrs, so THANKS AGAIN TO ALL
