PhillyKev 0 #1 November 4, 2003 Should be fun here in Philly. Police have special mobile unit to respond to violence at the polls for the first time ever. Electricians union for Street, Carpenters for Katz and those two unions already have a feud. Firebombs thrown into Katz's office, FBI bugs in Street's office. Should be a fun day. PhillyKev 0 #4 November 4, 2003 Not an option here. Just took a walk around city hall. Mass people chanting, holding up signs, screaming at each other. Was in the middle of the mob when police broke it up on Broad St. Street supporters screaming for riots if Katz wins and yelling that the Katz supporters aren't city residents, demanding their ids.....(didn't know you needed to show id to hold up a sign). Car accident while Street supporter plastering "Republican Thief" stickers over top of Katz signs and getting chased by the cops. Now this is politics....reminds me of Gangs of New York. PhillyKev 0 #5 November 4, 2003 Ok, now there's 36 incidents reported. Katz supporter trying to id people before entering the polls. Street supporter riding a bicycle whacking a Katz poll worker with a 2"x4" and taking off....and people thought politics got heated in talk back. freeflybella 0 #6 November 4, 2003 To quote PhillyKev in another thread (Catholic school girls chase down and beat up man exposing himself) : "I love my city." Nothing 'vanilla' here - The Birthplace of The Nation* is still as passionate and headstrong as ever. Plus, there are some great restaurants! *the tagline for Philadelphia Tourism somewhere between "The City of Brotherly Love" and "What The Fuck YOU Lookin' At?" Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
FliegendeWolf 0 #7 November 4, 2003 Well, I just got back from the polling site, and am amazed at the lack of security there. I walked in, and when the people asked where I lived, I saw my name on the roster and just pointed to it, saying "that's me." They didn't ask for ID or anything! I could have easily returned a bunch of times just pointing to different random people that have not shown up yet. PhillyKev 0 #8 November 4, 2003 Well, the idea there is not to disenfranchise people who don't have id, since it is a right to vote, there shouldn't be any requirements to do it (like having id). They should be comparing your signature, though. But it's very easy to see how fraud can be so easy to perpetrate, and why no matter who wins this election, I'm sure there will be lots of claims of it going on. FliegendeWolf 0 #9 November 4, 2003 Nope, they didn't even check my signature. I walked in, pointed to my name, grabbed the ballot, filled it out, walked over to the checkout people, pointed to my name again, put the ballots in the machine, and walked my merry way.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
