CanuckInUSA 0 #1 November 5, 2003 In the event that I may need to change my screen name from "CanuckInUSA" to "CanuckWhoUsedToBeInUSA", I have a health insurance question for my fellow Canadian skydiving brothers and sisters who have travelled to a US drop zone. When you travel to a US based DZ to jump, does your province cover your out of province medical care or do you need to add supplimental travelers health insurance and is there an issue with being a skydiver? Snowbird 0 #3 November 5, 2003 No, provincial health care doesn't cover enough for travelling outside of Canada. When I went to Eloy in January, I got extra medical coverage through BCAA, and it didn't cost much. That I would be skydiving didn't impact the premium. The important distinction was that I was not working or competing in the sport, it was just for fun. I don't know how it would affect the premium if you were working or competing. Just make sure your insurance pays any bills up front, and doesn't require you to pay first and then remit the bills. A friend got stuck with that after breaking her ankle in the US. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein
CanuckInUSA 0 #4 November 5, 2003 It's not going to happen over night (at least I don't think it will), but my company is likely on it's last chance with the investors and I need to mentally prepare myself for a possible layoff. And with the lousy job market right now in CO, I might have to move back to the great white north. But I wouldn't leave Colorado without at least trying to find something new. flyangel2 2 #6 November 5, 2003 I noticed in another thread that you were going to marry some gal. Do that, and you can stay in the good ole USA.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. Remster 30 #7 November 5, 2003 It gets a bit complicated. To be eligeable for healthcare in Canada, you have to be a resident, ie live here ot least 6 months / year. If you just moveback to canada, it may vary per province, but in Quebec for exemple, you're not eligeable for 3 months. And as Snowbird said, provicial health care wont cover you on out of country travel.Remster
