kai2k1 0 #1 November 3, 2003 72+ hours in the books, no smokes, but god knows ive wanted one, but (not to sound like an anti-smoking nazi) i haven't given in and i wont. I do believe that the hard part is over and that now it is mostly psychological. I'm learning how to deal with cravings and how to be headstrong and not to just go to the local 7-11 to get a pack and make it all go away. This is quite an experience. Thanks for letting me ramble. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=736130;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan

Squeak 17 #4 November 3, 2003 hehehe how long you been smoking for? 72 hours may just be a smoke break Good luck with it, I smoked for near 20 years and it took me a little longer than 72 hours to feel like a non smokerYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! Skyrose7 0 #6 November 3, 2003 best of luck to ya. it takes a lot of strength to quit.... just don't ever let yourself "smoke only when you have a drink" that doesn't work.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. billvon 3,110 #10 November 5, 2003 Good for you. I watched my mother die a pretty agonizing death from metastatic lung cancer - believe me, quitting will be worth it in the long run.
kai2k1 0 #11 November 5, 2003 ALANA: Keep it up, you can do it, just get lots and lots of chewing gum, it has worked for me!! BILL: Thanks for the support. I too watched my grandpa wither away from throat and lung cancer when i was a kid. that is one of my motivating factors. aero04 0 #13 November 5, 2003 All right guys, way to go!!! Just make it your mind you will not be beaten by those damn cigs and you WILL be smoke free before you know it. I have a similar story as billvon. I watched my grandmother slowly die from those damn cigs too. I'm sure you know what happens to folks after they have smoked for 20 or 30 years, so I'll spare the details. I'm watching my dad go down the exact same path, and it tears me up. I know he only has about 10 years left, and he is willing to give up another 10 for those cigs. At times, I hate him for it. Those damn things just aren't worth it. Figure out how much you spend a month for cigarettes and convert that to jump tix. Just think of the jump money you'll free up.
AntiPinkChrissy 0 #14 November 5, 2003 Alana, girl I know you can do it! I quit smoking about 4 years ago after I watched my mother die of cancer. She wasn't a smoker and it wasn't lung cancer, but I knew that I didn't want to die that way and I didn't need to increase my odds. What helped for me was to keep about a 1/2 full pack of cigarettes around. That way if I absolutely NEEDED one, I didn't have to buy a whole new pack. I never dipped into the pack, but it was there 'just in case'. And actually, I still have that pack of cigarettes to this day, as moldy as they are! Another thing I did was a whole lifestyle change. I quit smoking, started to eat healthier and started going to the gym on a regular basis. But first and foremost, you have to WANT to quit, or else it will never work. Good luck, I know you can do it! Besides, think of how many skydives that is! Another thing I did was put the money that I was going to spend on cigarettes in a jar and then buy myself something pretty and shiney with it instead.
