DShiznit 0 #2 November 5, 2003 Damn! Last "cold" I jumped was 52-55* on the ground, and cold as shit up high. I had on two tshirts, one sweatshirt, jumpsuit, insulated running pants, and gloves. It was still a cold mother scratcher.
Remster 30 #3 November 5, 2003 Quote....40 F.......super cold. lmao! Wear layers, including a windproof one as the last layer between your clothes and your jumpsuit (if you wear you jumpsuit). I wouldnt jump if I need to many layers: it makes the whole thing too unconfortable, and restricts motion. But 40F aint too bad As far as temp at altitude, you can never tell: there may be an inversion...Remster
firediver 0 #4 November 5, 2003 Underarmor, which you can get at sporting goods stores, rocks. It's a spandex kinda thermally thing It's tight fitting and superwarm, plus you'd look good in a spandex kinda thermally thing.. Skydiving isn't scary;...but clowns...CLOWNS are scary! PhreeZone 20 #5 November 5, 2003 Do what I'm doing and wear a wingsuit. I get exposed to the air for twice as long Seriously, layers. Polypro base layer then go from there. Cotton's hold sweat and can end up freezing you in the long run if you sweat n the plane. Another trick is to wear surgical gloves under your other gloves. The surgical ones will prevent the wind from getting through the gloves and freezing your fingers. I always bring an extra set of clothes to change into after jumping is over thats more comfy to hang at the DZ in then feeling and moving like the Stay-Puff Marshmellow man. I'm just planning on more hop an pops then freefalls once the temps get to 40 or below Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
AggieDave 6 #6 November 5, 2003 Hey, go to General skydiving and read the thread I started talking about Cold Weather jumping. It'll have a lot of tips and such in there!--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
jmpnkramer 0 #7 November 5, 2003 Quoteit's about 40 F on the ground and who knows how much colder at altitude? I am not sure. It is supposed to be 85+ here in Fl. I don't think we jump after it gets into the 60's Seriously though follow PhreeZone's advice. Dave, why couldn't you have put a clicky to what you are talking about for everyone? I mean you are on here enough. Some people do not have time to search for things. Laters, KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!!! The REAL KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER! jillr 0 #8 November 5, 2003 go to the local sporting goods store and buy yourself a good pair of silk long underwear. No they're not silky like VS stuff- they hava soft cottony feel and are usually rated for temp. They are very thin and have kept me warm in many occasions even away from the dz. cruzit 0 #9 November 5, 2003 I once jumped on New Year's Day when the ground temp was 20 degrees.... Sooooooo cooooold Layer, layer, layer, and invest in some wind stopper gloves. Usually, the only body parts which really get cold are my face and hands.
skybeergodd 0 #10 November 5, 2003 If found that polar fleece pullovers work very well...thermal spandex pants under a pair of jeans and neoprene gloves plus one of those fleece polar gators to keep the neck warm and a full face helmet. All that has kept me toasty warm for hundreds of below freezing jumps here in Missouri. BLUE SKIES AND WARM WEATHER

Nightingale 0 #12 November 5, 2003 REI (and other sporting goods stores, and also Eddie Bauer, I think), carry long underwear made out of silk. much warmer than the thermal stuff, and much thinner and lighter. Great for skiing too! On my next jump, I'm wearing that, and Adidas warmup pants to keep the wind out, under my jumpsuit.
freefallfreak 0 #13 November 5, 2003 Silk long johns...can't beat 'em, IMHO. TripleF
jazzjumper 0 #14 November 5, 2003 Hey Banana! Check out Patagonia's line of sky underthings. I use their trademark caprilene...best stuff on early. I've skiied in -20 with it, wicks sweat away if you get warm packing. It's better than polypro...but then again, you pay a bit for it as well...but I've had my two pairs for more that 10 years, and they don't wear out. http://www.patagonia.com/store/womens/underwear.shtml No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit! PLFKING 4 #17 November 5, 2003 Quotethen feeling and moving like the Stay-Puff Marshmellow man. Somehow, I just can't picture a stick like you looking like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. Picturing Remi like that is no problem...Maybe it's the adrenaline rush since I'm still a low-time jumper, but i never get cold. Just a t-shirt under my suit, or a t-shirt and fleece if I'm jumping in my jeans. Cold weather makes the plane ride up a lot more pleasant also. BBKid 0 #19 November 5, 2003 Dunno if you can get it easily in the States, but try out Lowe Alpine's DryFlo underlayers. I tend to just wear my really thin but snuggly-toasty shirt under a t-shirt, thin-ish sweater, the a jumpsuit. Does me fine in brass monkey English winters. By the way, good on you for getting the practise in for when you get over here - when is that again? Nick --------------------------- "I've pierced my foot on a spike!!!"
