Kramer 0 #1 November 6, 2003 I've got video of a few of my jumps on VHS. I'd like to be able to upload them to my computer to add to my growing collection of skydiving videos. Could anyone point me in the right direction of how to go about doing this? I'm pretty computer saavy, so you don't have to be too detailed... I'm sure others wouldn't mind knowing either. darkvapor 0 #2 November 6, 2003 Your going to need a video capture card with appropriate software. Just make sure the capture card has inputs that match the type of outputs you have (from whatever your going to output the video from, VCR etc). Some newer technologies might have digital outputs, in which case, it might be a helluva easier sending it to a computer. But since its on VHS, I doubt it. Then you can either use the software that comes with the capture card or something like Adobe Premiere to edit, compress, and encode it to a popular format. http://www.arstechnica.com/guide/audio-visual/videocapturing/vidcap-1.html
RevJim 0 #3 November 6, 2003 If you do a search in the photography and video forum, you will find a wealth of information on this subjuct. To start you off though, you need a good capture card. KerMor 0 #4 November 6, 2003 The easiest way I have found is to connect the S-Video output of your VCR to your Sony camcorder and connect it via Firewire to your computer... And it does work edited to point out that a Camcorder can be used as a capture card. You can't determine the length of your life - but you can control its height and depth. Guest #6 November 6, 2003 You don't absolutely need a card, although they work best. You can use an inexpensive USB vidcap device, provided you have the computing speed (500 mhz or greater) to support it. You'll also need drive space to store the captured video. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
kallend 2,151 #7 November 6, 2003 Once you have it on your PC, there are a bunch of free programs you can use to convert to the format of your choice. AVI files are much larger than some of the others. Microsoft's Media Encoder is free, for example, at their download site.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
