The New Napster

Recommended Posts

Has anyone started using the new Napster? I'm curious about the new Premium accounts on there. It says "stream and download all the tracks you want" then right under it says "Download tracks on as many as three computers. Purchase your favorites for 99 cents....." So is it $9.95 plus the 99 cents a track?? And with one account could I, for instance, listen to radio with it during the day at work then download music at home with the same account?

I know, it's not that hard, but I wouldn't want to sign up then find out I misunderstood. Being able to listen to music at work would almost make it worth it in itsenf. That 365 site sucks if you don't sign up for their premium service too...ads every two seconds and that's only IF you can actually get onto one of the stations...I usually get this crap about it being too full.

Um, gee, Ivan sure was helpful there. :S

Anyway Pammi, any site where you must pay a subscription for streaming media, be it audio or video, is not usually worth it.

The internet by its very own nature, is quite unstable. One second you have a perfect, clean, clear, stable stream and the next thing you know, you're buffering for 30 seconds.

I agree that 365 is extremely bad, but there is really nothing stopping Napster from being equally bad. Tried clicking through Yahoo pages quickly any time lately? Does it seem slow to you? That's a combination of net traffic, and the fact that Yahoo's servers are heavily overloaded. Think about that. We were slowing down HH's server, so he got a second one, as well as other upgrades. We are a few thousand people. A site like that is going to end up with millions of users. Expect slow connections, buffering, dropped connections, ect. as well as tracking of EVERYTHING you do on the site, and attempt to do with the music.

For now, I'll stick to Kazaa lite.

Either what Jim said, or find an alternative streaming channel.

There are still a good number of free streams out there. The most interesting ones are from International locations. You can actually find Windows Media Player-formatted streams that don't even require any special software.

Is kazaa lite still working? I thought it went away.

Well, I'm not sure if you can still get the program, as alot of it was shut down but, if you have the program, it will still work. Mine did, until 2 days ago when i reformatted my hard drive and forgot to save the kazaa lite installer. [:/]

Yes, it is still working, there is actually a new version out as well.

Phree, using kazaa is not illegal. Downloading music is not illegal. It all depends on what you are downloading...
