Worth and Value

Recommended Posts

I just borrowed a friends freefly suit, and brought it to work, I asked one of the sewing teachers if she could knock me up a suit like this.
She said no problems, there's abit of wrok in it but its no biggy.
So she cut a pattern out and gave me a list of everything needed.
The cost of all material was $45AUD ($31.50USD)
now the cost of the labour will be negligable.

So worth versus value, the materials are worth less than $50 (cheaper still in bulk). is there really $250.00 dollars in labour or are the manufactures robbing us blind???B|

oops edited to change FF suit cost

$2100.00, for a freefly suit? I hope you're not comparing the cost of a FF suit to the costs of R&D, materials, quality control, and sewing of a canopy or container. You're not trying to make that leap, are you?

For what it's worth, I would suggest that until you've tried to cut and sew your own fabric into something meaningful that you not be so quick as to discount the cost, or value or labor.

OK, that number makes a bit more sense.

But, as Hookit said, supply and demand, supply and demand...

Think someday though about the profit margins for anyone involved on the selling end of this sport. You'll realize quickly that nobody is getting rich off of skydiving.

What sort of thread is she planning on useing?

If it's standard clothing thread, you'd best wear full underwear because you'll be lucky indeed if it survives its first freefall.

Is she darn sure the material she's chosen can withstand windblast of 150+ mph?

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

There's a big difference between copying a design and designing a design. And another big difference between that and promoting a design.

But if you're just measuring materials cost, you're not an entrepreneur and you won't understand that.

How many jumpsuit manufacturers out there are making innovative designs? I'm not trying to argue any point you made, just bringing up another. :)

Honestly, if the idea of a jumpsuit was a new thing and only only truly entrepreneruial (word?) guy was making them, then they'd be much, much *more* expensive.
