"It isn't a sport unless you can die from massive trauma." (not my quote!)

This is why I get really cheesed when I see poker and billiards on ESPN - those are GAMES! >:(

Perhaps we can agree that a "sport" is a form of recreation involving physical exertion or risk...

exactly why golf is a game and not a sport....

Whoa there. You go out, out of shape (like I was), smoking upwards of 2 packs of smokes a day (like I was), and WALK 36 holes on Sat, 36 holes on Sun, and at least 3 18 hole rounds during the week (like I did before I found skydiving), and tell me it's a game. Then show me how the exact placement of your hands, legs, hips, and elbows directly effects your swing. When you do it every day for for most of your life, you get pretty damn good at it. Then you approach the 9th green, a sure skins match worth over $500 in your grasp, and shank it over the green. Feel that stress of losing that much cash on a physical fuck up (kinda like funneling a 4 or 8 way at Nationals, huh) and tell me it's a game.

I love skydiving, but damn it, Golf IS a sport!

i've lost far more than that playing poker but its still a game...

now night speed golf could be considered a sport.
3 balls (lose them and your out)
3 clubs (any you wish)
time in min is added to your score..

tee off and start running before the ball hits the ground....;)

I've gotten into this argument before with a chick. She said that cheerleading is more of a sport than skydiving. :o>:(
Her explanation: High Schools always list cheerleading as a sport, and you usually see skydiving called an "activity". :S

I've golfed a grand total of 27 holes in the last 3 years, but now that, that would get me to pull the clubs out! :)

People who get in to the "my sport is better than your sport" theme should relax and let others enjoy their thing.

yep, they should....... opinions opinions.......
i saw a couple posts earlier on another thread about how some people thought rock climbing or scuba were worthless compared to skydiving........2 totally different things.........scuba is a whole different world. peaceful and unbelievable. rock climbing can be more zenlike, or it can also be pushing yourself to your limits like when youre 35 feet over your last piece of manky pro ya barely think will hold and lookin at a 75 to 80 ft screamer while youre pumped from lactic acid buildup and ready to peel off the wall before ya get your next piece of protection in, now that has scared the shit outta me before. for some reason, i never get pumped jumping, no adrenaline rush.......i mean, i have fun....lots of fun, and thats why i love doing it and did it as a job for 3 years. ill always love skydiving, and will never stop, but i do have a habit of getting into one thing and getting lax on the rest of the things i love doing.

anyhow, lots of things can be sports, and although ive thought about it being called a sport a few times and said to myself.......well, really not a "sport" i guess it is if you think of it in a competetion sence ala 4 way or the like it is.

i think i almost turned that into a thread hijack and caught myself.........

Why would anyone want to hit a perfectly good golf ball?[:/]

That is true. You have the ball. Then you hit it. Now you have to go get the ball again, but once you get there, you hit it.

It's kind of like playing fetch with a really stupid dog. "Go get the stick Spot... see?... like this..." ;)
