GiaKrembs 0 #1 November 6, 2003 Hey I'm looking for any dz.commers who live in or around downtown San Francisco. My Nephew has been accepted to culinary school and will be moving to SF next year. Any recommendations on where to live - safe areas, reasonable cost, or if anyone may be looking for a roomate. Any advise, or info would be great! He is 20 years old and this is his first journey into the world (outside of Utah) ciao for now, g Raddest ho this side of Jersey #1 - rest in peace brother Beth lost her cherry and I missed it .... you want access to it, but you don't want to break it. Sebazz1 2 #2 November 6, 2003 Utah to the Bay Area... Yowza! What school will he be attending Gia? If we had an address of were the school was, what neighbourhood, etc... I'm more than certain you'd get some really good feedback here.
hookitt 1 #3 November 6, 2003 San Francisco huh??? That ought to be some serious culture shock. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
GiaKrembs 0 #4 November 6, 2003 Ya know if I had my head on straight today, I'd be able to answer that question... he did tell me and even told me the address!!! Sorry I'm a little overloaded today - I just signed a major deal with a production company and now I can't move the damn thing because our vessels are overbooked for the next month! Try and explain that one to the customer~! I'll be talking with him later today or tomorrow morning, I'll ask again... Thanks for being patient with my basket case self!!! GiaKrembs 0 #8 November 6, 2003 Yes, indeed it will be culture shock! But, I am soooo excited for him. This is such a great opportunity to get his buttocks out of Utah and explore!!! As a congrats to him, I'm flying him to Arizona to have Thanksgiving dinner with all the family (a surprise for the fam too). He is so stoked to be moving and will be visiting SF in January to do a bit of house hunting etc. I'm so very proud of him!!!! He's lived through some serious rough times (the kind that make criminals), and has come out a shining star. Enough of my ranting.... g Raddest ho this side of Jersey #1 - rest in peace brother Beth lost her cherry and I missed it .... you want access to it, but you don't want to break it. noname 0 #11 November 6, 2003 I can't tell you a lot about the city of SF itself, except that it is a very expensive place to live and parking and traffic are very difficult! Getting around the city can take some time, I suggest getting a place near his school. Sf is divided into districts, each with their own personality. These links give a short description of each district. http://www.sfgate.com/traveler/guide/sf/neighborhoods/ http://www.san-francisco-real-estate-agents.com/Castro.html Stay out of Tenderloin and Hunter's Point!!! For rentals try http://www.craigslist.org If there is anything else you need to know, I will try to answer

I lived in the Fillmore, and had a friend that lived in the Mission. They're both OK areas. But for the most bang for your buck - Sunset. Is a chicken omelette redundant? SF is a very diverse city but I can't think of a better place to go to a culinary school. You can find anything there ... I am looking to relocate to a different state and I can say that I find out a lot of good info about places on the Web. That's an historically "Gay" part of town, but also a very interesting and fun place as well. It's near Civic Center plaza (a great place to buy crack), Hastings Law School, the Federal Building (FBI and Federal Courthouses) the Geary and Golden Gate Theatres. Very fun, not to bad to walk around, but the park in front of City Hall can be pretty seamy. He has the option of riding BART (our train system) and living on the other side of the bay, and taking the train. It's walking distance from the Civic Center station to the CCA. If I was in his position I would rent a room in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland and take the train everyday. Look up the BART websight http://www.bart.gov/stations/map/systemMap.asp Rockridge is a great pedestrian neighborhood, it's pretty safe, with great restaurants, bakeries and pubs. It's fairly near the Cal campus.
