But remember we are in a turn around with the economy.... I know.. I am just being a smart ass.

The unofficial unemployment rate of 6.1 percent does not tell us how many millions of people are employed in part-time jobs but who would gladly accept full-time work. More than 2.5 million manufacturing jobs have been lost since the current administration took office—56,000 disappeared in June alone. Those were good-paying jobs. In the richest country in the world, 43.6 million people do not have health insurance—more than 15 percent of our families, friends and neighbors have no protection for themselves when they fall ill. A record number of bankruptcies—an estimated 1.7 million—is forecast for 2003.

Anyone feeling trickled on yet?

Qwest communications International planned 155-employee call center, which would handle technical questions about high-speed internet will be locating in Salt Lake City instead of Portland. 11-5-2003 the oregonian you might try www.oregonlive.com for more info. Looks like things are looking up in Utah.

The axe has dropped......[:/]

Im having mixed emotions, as this really could be the begining of something new...and better for me :)

THAT is an excellent attitude. You will do well. I wish there was something here in our area but all of the IT openings seem to be in Charlotte or Raliegh ( of course those are closer to DZs than Greensboro)

IT openings

Im not exactly sure that I want to continue in this field. I am leaning towards leaving the IT field behind. I have strong people skills (read as :likes to BS with people:)) So finding something that will allow me to go out and socialize and deal with people is something that I would like to do. I have had many years experince as a PC support person, over the last few years, I partialy transitioned to programming and scripting which made me nuts:S I would really like to go back to working with people, minus the computer stuff. Maybe techincal sales or marketing of a product line or something like that.

In IT iwas a general PC LAN/WAN support guy and then got moved over into product support with the development staff. I can understand the "going nuts part".

Originally, for 25 or 30 years I was a musician/teacher and decided to "sell out" and get a real job mostly for the money. Sometimes I think it was a mistake. I miss the kids teaching and I miss the atmosphere at playing gigs. Somtimes I think sdealing with a drunk at a bar is easier than dealing with an executive that knows a little about computers.

Follow your heart. People are much more interesting than machines IMHO.

If you're willing to try other fields, a job is out there somewhere.
The IT age was a blast....to bad it's over :(
Lost my job last year. From working with routers and communication I now work at Xerox with copy and print.
Get 20k USD less a year, but not that much stress.
Less money, but better than beeing unemployd.

There's more to life than IT.

PS.
If someone knows of a good IT job paid 40k or more somewhere the sun shines all seasons, and a good dropzone close by let me know. I know Cisco (CCNP), Nortel, linux (RHCE), windoze +++
Need reen card or work permit for the US, and a trailor at the dz ;)

There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
