Jimbo 0 #1 November 8, 2003 As long as we're stirring up the shit with all the political threads, I thought it might be fun to throw this one in the mix. Shoshana Johnson, the other female U.S. POW of the Iraq war, is slated to receive a far smaller disability pension than that granted Jessica Lynch. Now, I've never understood why we made a hero out of a woman who got lost and captured in the war in Iraq, but for her (Jessica) to receive higher disability payments than the other soldiers who suffered with her, for ANY reason just doesn't seem right to me. The true heros, I think, are those who saved those who were captured, why don't we hear anything about them? Why don't we hear anything about the others who were captured and rescued? I guess I've just never bought into the hype surrounding Jessica Lynch. How about you? - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. darkvapor 0 #4 November 8, 2003 I've stated my thoughts in the following thread (which pretty much discussed exactly the same thing your trying to get at: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=729610 However, I will just add that I think Jessica Lynch showed some common sense and class when she said to the public that the military overplayed and over dramatized her rescue. She admitted that she didn't fire a single shot, and that there was nothing heroic about her actions.

skydivingchad 0 #6 November 8, 2003 she may have said that the whole story is being overplayed by the military and everyone else, but she (Jessica) is the one who sold the story to make that tv movie and the book that is comming out about her. I doubt that I will watch the movie or read the book, but I would like to know how much of it will be centered on her., and how much the other people will be featured. (not much is my guess) Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #
Guest #7 November 8, 2003 The PI critic says the TV movie focuses on pretty much everyone else involved. I won't be watching it in any case. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

I'm not sure how much control she will have of the movie. Not much is my guess so the blame would fall on the producers.
CrazyIvan 0 #9 November 8, 2003 Read this. Do you think this would be another movie? __________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.

I don't understand it either, but given the kind of exposure and press that's happening now, I personally think that Shoshanna has the better end of the deal. Her life is not under a microscope, she will fully recover and I hope that there are sources of support for her that quietly conduct themselves. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Disability has nothing to do with whether or not the soldier was heroic. It has to do only with the severity of the injuries. Jessica's hero status is debateable, but the seriousness of her injuries is not.
ThighMan 5 #13 November 9, 2003 Lets see the differences between the two women. One was on video, not always a good thing but they do have to answer to the public on the condition of the person after words. One was not. (Hmmmm I wonder why not?) Second, one was not wounded, one had four broken bones and shot/stabbed. Now, you tell me who should get more disability? Here is one for you, what about the rest of soldiers who where caught and the "DIED" and where found at the hospital. Hmmmm I wonder how they died? It would be nice to have CSI there and look into how they where shot. These are just some of the questions that should be in peoples mind when looking at the Iraq Prisoner of War. It is war and it is not always played by the rules. Yes, rules in war. Ox and a Moron but it is true. Of course, this is just my two cents worth from a guy who has 19 years in. nightjumps 1 #15 November 9, 2003 Its also my understanding that Jessica is no longer in the military, but Ms. Johnson is. Usually, disability compensation is not determined while in the military as she has medical care and receives her check. Prior to leaving, Ms. Johnson will go before a medical review board to determine (if any) the amount of disability she receives. I would venture to say, that when the time cones, she'd receive as much as Jessica. If for no other reason than the military is being very and overly PC right now.
