George Bush Part 2

Recommended Posts

As a generalization, I've found that conservatives tend to be more grumpy/angry than liberals. From my experience, most liberals want to live and enjoy their lives while they last and not be dictated to about how they should go about doing it. Conservatives seem to always think there's something wrong, usually caused by those damn liberals, and want to fix it by imposing their will on others (even though it will never change their outlook). At least that's the general impression that I get.

A friend of mine grew up friends with most of the Bush family; he said that, Florida notwithstanding, Jeb is a seriously nice guy.

Wendy W.

Jeb is also the smart one - too smart to become a puppet of the extreme right.

Lets see......leftist....check
Liberal......check
Socialist.......check
but what's a commie pinko?

All of the above are defined as "heading out of power and not letting the door hit them in the ass on the way out" category in the US.

And it's a good thing. :)

I'm sure we could find more in common than ideology if we tried.

The fact that you directed this commentary towards Rick is amazing. There is an elephant standing in your living room, dude. :o

That exactly how I view it, only switch the two around. It shows you that most people want the same things, it's just the basis of how they go about making it happen.

Apparently, PhillyKev has been exposed to extreme conservatives, while I've been exposed to extreme liberals. Both will leave a bad taste. Both want to dictate how you and everyone else lives their lives.

;)Of course, I'm correct and Philly has obviously been exposed to extreme liberals who only 'told' him they were conservatives. (Fiscal only here, I'm not going near the social positions....):D

I'm a social liberal in the idea that people should be free to do what they want as long as it doesn't affect anyone else. I also believe there should be certain gov't services, such as free health care. However, I think it should be handled more locally instead of federally, that's why i consider myself a fiscal conservative.

We have much in common for going by different philosophies.

However, I'd still say the private sector has advantage in efficiencies over almost all government run programs - especially health care. That would tend towards your local preference of control.

I think a good moderate conservative would argue the point about "as long as it doesn't affect anyone else" being more in line with right rather than left. I feel that left ideology is intending/attempting to control my everyday actions much more than the right. (Exception is the religious wackos, but if we put them in a bucket of their own, then the groups are much more easy to discern).{{I consider enviro/abortion/anti-abortion wackos just another for of religious zealotism...}}

Now, which is more important

social liberal or fiscal conservative

If fiscal conservative, then the position is people can do what they want as long as I don't have to pay for it. (That's me).

It's a shame that now people tend to identify more with the party based on which group's extremists scare us more rather than which group we align with more.

We are contrarians in nature.
No we're not.

joking aside Kevin I want your honest answer to this. You really want the same kind of people running your heath care as the IRS. To me that is just to scary. And since the single payer heath care would be a federal program you can count on the costs being 40% higher. Are YOU willing to pay that? Have you been to a VA hospital?

No, like I said, I'd prefer it on the local level. In fact one of the line items that passed in the election this week was for Philadelphia to develop its own citywide universal healthcare.

Dude!

Where did you learn to get so grumpy!:D

I didn't set the tone for this thread. It is interesting that I was the one singled out. While another poster has been ranting for days, I'm the one who's grumpy. Oh thats right she shares your view on politics and I don't.

Life's a breeze, and politics is like fleas arguing about who owns the dog they're on.

True. Nobody changes their minds they just dig in deeper.

I'm sure we could find more in common than ideology if we tried.

Skydiving comes to mind.

BP90 - SHHHHHH

(Sotto voice to BodyPilot90 - I have no issues with it being at other cities or states provided they are not at my city or state. And no federal money goes to support the program.

That way all those looking for a free ride will move to those cities or states. Out of my state.;))

Out loud - Sounds like a great program for Philly. Go for it.:)

Of course, it needs to be funded somehow. But so does all medical insurance. Just because your employer gives you coverage doesn't mean it is free. I feel that we as a society have a responsibility to each other to make sure we're all healthy. I don't mind paying a bit more to make sure that the kid down the street gets to go to the doctor when he's sick.

Why would it drive employers out of the city? It might even bring them in because now they don't need to pay for health benefits.
