JackC 0 #1 November 10, 2003 http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/articles/7602147?source=Evening%20Standard I can't believe it. This fucktard wants to close down a big chunk of London for three days so that he doesn't have to deal with any protestors when he visits. Apparently he's stopping at Buckingham Palace while he's out-staying his welcome. I hope the Queen's corgis to drop a great big steaming turd in his shoes. billvon 3,179 #3 November 11, 2003 Why is that so hard to believe? Surely you've been grounded due to a presidential visit before; happens about twice a year here. And surely London's not much bigger than a DZ; they make things small over there in Old Europe.

Whatever "That" is - he won't allow us to know. HRH believes that the British public will swallow his denial... This belief is understandable since his servants have been swallowing for years. Mike. MarkF 0 #11 November 11, 2003 Well he, GWB, came to Canberra and heaped insult upon insult. The Australian people were denied access to OUR parliament house. School children from the other side of the country had their visit to parliament cancelled and were told to re-schedule it. There were guns taken into a joint sitting of parliament at the insistance of the US heirarchy. (Never before have there been weapons allowed into the house.) The worst was reserved for when he delivered his speech. He treated the whole house with utter contempt. He failed to display even the slightest knowledge of the protocols that ALL visitors (all unelected people in the house are visitors - Hansard reporters, etc) must conform to. He even went so far as to fail to address his speech to the speaker of the chamber. Contrast that with the Chinese delegation. They had security concerns but they managed them without causing undue inconvenience or taking weapons into the house. The parliament building was open for public access. Not only did school groups attend but they were given a chance to talk to the Chinese delegation. The most telling thing was that the Chinese had very much done their homework. They knew the protocols and followed along. To my mind the US delegation seemed very insular whilst the Chinese delegation was open and accessible. The US people seemed hostile and annoyed that they had to be here while the Chinese people came to talk and listen and enjoy themselves. It'll be interesting to see how his visit to London pans out. mikkey 0 #13 November 11, 2003 Now mate, you are really out of line here. What a load of rubbish. Quote Australian people were denied access to OUR parliament house. School children from the other side of the country had their visit to parliament cancelled and were told to re-schedule it. Now get real, in the current security environment you had to do these things. Access was restricted yes, but that has happened before - just not that extensively. (BTW the place was in “shut down” for only a few hours). And the school kids story that has been paddled by people like you has been proven to be BS. Some tours had to be re-scheduled - but that was done some time ago and no real problem. QuoteThe worst was reserved for when he delivered his speech. He treated the whole house with utter contempt. He failed to display even the slightest knowledge of the protocols .... I do not know what you smoked, but nobody has criticized Bush for his behaviour during the speech. And NOBODY in the Australian press did say he treated the parliament with contempt. He actually was congratulated for how he handled the stupid and rude interruptions from those "Green" Senators who were the ones not following the rules. The speech was not great but just the usual stuff. QuoteContrast that with the Chinese delegation. You have to be kidding me. The Chinese delegation threatened all kind of things if the President would be subjected to any protests during his visit. The Green Senators were actually banned from the Parliament during his speech in order to ensure this. THIS was a breach of protocols far more severe then Bush taking his bodyguards with him into the house. QuoteTo my mind the US delegation seemed very insular whilst the Chinese delegation was open and accessible. The US people seemed hostile and annoyed that they had to be here while the Chinese people came to talk and listen and enjoy themselves. BS. When did which Americans behave “hostile and annoyed”? The Chinese had not the same security concerns, but they made it very clear that they wanted no embarrassment of their President or else.... Lucky for them the loony left and Greens were only demonstrating and making trouble against Bush not the Chinese, in spite of the human rights records of the Chinese. I am not a Bush fan (to put it mildly) - but as much as I can’t stand the rubbish the "right wing club" is dishing up here in Talk Back - I also can't stand the rubbish from the loony lefties and America haters here in OZ. PS: Anyone wants to find out a few fatcs of the visit should do some search on Australian news web sites. That will probable explain why I am angry at Mark.--------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When ants look like people - pray. They had to cancel the whole event because his security staff decided it was not save to have skydiving planes flying around during the Worldbank sumit he was attending. damn empty blue skies over dubai FrancoIf it does not cost anything you are the product. Tonto 1 #16 November 11, 2003 When Clinton came out to SA, he was due to stay at the "Mount Nelson" hotel in Cape Town. His security dudes arrived 2 weeks before, and "requested" that three 200 year old Oak trees "would have to go" for security reasons prior to the visit. The day manager simply cancelled his booking and told the security staff the President would need to seek acommodation "elsewhere." tIt's the year of the Pig. I'm not exactly anti-bush or anti-war etc, but I don't think his style of 'I'm coming, you'd better do exactly as I say' crap is on. Some nutter (the accuser has a history of making false allegations and mental problems) makes an unproven allegation and you just run with it (and you papers). Sigh.... Yeah... Sure... Our Royal Family has a long tradition of taking out injunctions to silence nutters. It wasn't one of the "gutter tabloids" that was going to print. It was the sunday edition of a well respected, even somewhat Right Wing & conservative newspaper. The "Nutter" (as described by the royals) was a former soldier and veteran of the Flaklands Conflict. He did suffer post traumatic stress syndrome. his "history of false allegation" was his complaint of homosexual rape while in HRH's service anfd the first thing Charles did in investigating this allegation was to sack the victim! Then hold an "internal" enquiry which has already been castigated. Still. I suppose it all depends on your overall opinion of the Royal Family. Mike. wmw999 2,650 #19 November 11, 2003 Good post. I sure Hope that GWB's visit isn't extended; I'm arriving in London on the 21st for a 2-week vacation, and I'd sure hate to have it messed up. For that matter, I don't want to spend 4 hours in customs because of security concerns. I'd rather earn stuff like that through my own suspicious appearance, rather than because of someone else Wendy w.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
