dropdeded 0 #1 November 12, 2003 Ever been involved in one? Im gonna play the part of a victim in a "Bioterrorism Statewide Drill Scenario" tomorrow, where supposedly the agent "Yersinia pestis" is released in the air duct system at a concert. Lolie 0 #4 November 12, 2003 I have a lot of experience playing victims! The biggest ones I've done were a school bombing scenario and a bus accident scenario. They like me because I'm awesome at screaming. -Miranda you shall above all things be glad and young / For if you're young, whatever life you wear it will become you;and if you are glad / whatever's living will yourself become. firediver 0 #6 November 12, 2003 Been involved in simulations and drills as well as the real thing on more than a few occasions. You should be tagged with a card saying what you injuries/symptoms are. Just play it up and don't help out by magically hopping onto a stretcher or other things like that. Let the people responding do it like they'd really have to in real life....have fun with it too!!!!! BTW....the agent they are simulating releasing is the plague. I'm not sure what type of scenario they're envisioning, but potentially 75% of you are going to die from it...have a nice day Skydiving isn't scary;...but clowns...CLOWNS are scary! Shotgun 1 #7 November 12, 2003 That sounds interesting. How do you get involved in something like that?
bmcd308 0 #8 November 12, 2003 I was a safety officer and sometimes "school teacher" in an active shooter response drill for one of the local police departments here. Also got to attend a lecture from an FBI bomb squad guy that was held before the school drill, which was pretty cool. firediver 0 #9 November 12, 2003 QuoteThat sounds interesting. How do you get involved in something like that? Give you state or local Emergency Management Agency a call...they would most likely be the ones dealing with that.... Skydiving isn't scary;...but clowns...CLOWNS are scary! dropdeded 0 #10 November 12, 2003 That sounds interesting. How do you get involved in something like that? ------------------------------------------------------------ My whole EMT class is involved, part of the course. Not sure how to get involved otherwise, but Im sure its pretty simple, someone here will probably know how. dropdeded------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -

It is also fun when you involve county volunteer personell, fire, EMS, these guys really know how to ham up an injury I'm not afriad of dying, I'm afraid of never really living- Erin Engle

Dagny 0 #13 November 12, 2003 I was triage for a mass casualty scenario in 1998. The setup was a plane that struck a federal office building. Looking back, post 9/11, makes me realize that people thought of the possibility, but really dropped the ball when the incident came to pass. I mean, the best way to handle a MCI, in my opinion, is to prevent it. But, then....that's not really the nature of EMS. EMS just cleans up the mess.Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali
Dagny 0 #14 November 12, 2003 Since I just studied Yersinia, thought I'd mention a few things about it... Y. pestis is an agent of bubonic and pneumonic plague. Bubonic plague has a suddent onset with low grade fever, slurred speech, and abdominal pain. Lymph nodes become inflamed and a general bacteremia occurs. Septicemia can lead to death. Transmission is via rat fleas and ingestion of infected animals. Pneumonic plague, the more likely choice of biotoxin for your scenario, is spread rapidly and causes nearly 100% mortality. Symptoms are generalized pain and headache, nausea, respiratory difficulty, fever, and cough with blood-tinged sputum. Death occurs from suffocation. Transmission is person to person and therefore can be spread very rapidly. Nasty stuff, yersinia. Have fun with the scenario!Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali

TribalTalon 0 #17 November 13, 2003 i played a hostage back in high school, our police department Swat team came on a sunday and a few high school people volunteered to be "hostages". it was pretty sweet.. i was one of the people held at gun point, and if the swat team people messed up the bad guy would shoot his gun right by my head (blanks) and "kill" me. DAMN it was loud, especially in that small classroom we were in. lol. And i had to take evasive action when one zealous swat team guy threw a large metal trash can in the room (right at me) in order to create a distraction. lol.. i remember being "dead" and peeking and seein this huge trash can incoming straight at my head.
