Help with New Sony MD Walkman

Recommended Posts

Ok so I just bought this sony MD walkman thing and the software is anti-piracy and such and wont let me send just any ole mp3 from my harddrive to the walkman, it wants to take the songs directly from a CD or music drive through a check in/out process to avoid anti-piracy.

Does anyone know any other software I can install that will let me send anything I want to the player?

[rant] Take it back to the store where you bought it, and buy yourself a true MP3 player. Anti-piracy software like the one that's bundled with Sony products, is just a pain in the ass. Even legit MP3 music ( MP3's you bought for a $0.99 a song) can't be sent to a Sony MD player. [:/]

Sony was the last portable CD player manufacturer, to implement CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 compatibility on some of their portable CD players ( only a few models), Why? Just because they own Sony music.

I've allways been a strong supporter of Sony products, especially the MiniDV cameras, and other video products...... but their portable audio devices.... they suck big time. [/rant]

Hmmm, sucks that you've had so many problems with sony walkman products, cause i just got mine to send an mp3 downloaded from Kazaa to the player with the software that came with it. I think I'll probably have problems over time though, theres some significant anti piracy and I'm too scared to connect my pc to the internet while I'm sending music to the player :D:S

Take a look at some of the Creative Labs products. The make a few MP3 players that are so small, they could be misktaken for a key chain! :o yet they can play at least 4 hours of 128Kbps encoded MP3 songs. (Creative MuVo NX 256Mb). They can be bought for about the same price as what you've paid for your Sony MD player. And the MuVo won't puke on the MP3's you have stored on your computer. :P

do what i did with my md recorder before all these mp3' came out.... just hook it up to your computer's audio out and go from there... yah it's not true digital and you do have to listen to all the songs as you record them (well make a playlist and have the player record as you do the laundry ect.... my sound card also has a digital out that i bet you could use to hook up to the digital in on the md recorder..... i love my md player it rockes.... lots better than my mp3 player but well the mp3 player was a gift and is a piece of crap , but i'm to cheap to go buy a new one as my car stereo can play mp3's nd wel i oly use the md player now for taking on the ride up to altitude....

Yea, pain in the ass all that.

The software will only import mp3's that are recording at a certain bit rate, antything over or under is not import.

I just downloaded a mp3 to wav converter and it had options to output again in mp3 format, but at a specified bite rate. ( Can't remember the name as I'm working away from home! )

I would recommend that you get an mp3 player unless you really need Mini discs.

iPod

The Ipod is a very nice MP3 player, as is the Nomad Zen NX. However, it's not recommended to engage in any physical activities with a hard drive based player. They're too fragile, and the music will skip if you jog with it. I have a Nomad Jukebox, and it skips if i'm walking rapidly or jogging. If you plan on doing any physical activites with your player, you would be better off with a flash memory based MP3 player.

Just my .02 cents! :)

My iPod hasn't skipped on me when running/walking. It has 32 mb of buffer memory...20-30 minutes which means the hard drive only has to spin up periodically to load more music. I suppose it could happen but I have never seen it as a problem or concern.

It's a great device...external Firewire hard drive, syncs addresses and appointments with your computer as well as playing mp3, mp4 (AAC) and Aiff files organized in however many playlists you want.

That sucks. I think that my computer came with a pre-loaded mp3 "jukebox" that had drivers for my mp3 player (Rio S30) already in it. I can not remember the name of the software package, but I will check it out when I get home to see what it was and if it has any Sony drivers.

A little off topic... but has anyone here ever jumped with their mp3 player?
