They are perfectly legal to own in most states. I think that if you can get the chief law enforcement officer in your jurisdiction to sign off on your application you can own one in California.

The H&R Handygun is classified as an AOW (any other weapon) which is a title 2 weapon. You need to file a BATFE form 4 and pay a 5 dollar transfer tax on the weapon in question. Then you just need to wait about 90 days for the BATFE and the FBI to run your background checks and viola you own a title 2 gun.

In Texas we can have machineguns and silencers too. They were my hobby before I started spending all my money on skydiving.

I got a .410 It's called the snake charmer, which is what I got it for, rattle snakes in Eastern Oregon, (protection not hunting) never had to use it, but It will sure blow the hell out of a pop can or a milk jug. It is only 26 inches long with a 4 inch stock just to make it legal. well that was legel before some gunlaws passes, a president or two ago.

Let me try a new question.

If someone (hypothetically speaking of course), were to come into posession of a family heirloom that was "possibly illegal" in thier state, such as a firearm like the H&R Handygun, should an attempt be made to register said hypothetical firearm? Whats the chance of losing it?

All hypothetical of course.

Hell, you can just go to the local Wal-Mart and get one of those.
Oh, yeah, I love Texas.
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

It is not a Title 2 weapon unless it has already been registered with BATF. It is my understanding that no additional AOWs can be registered. If it is a family heirloom, it is possible that it is contraband, since many people did not realize that their .410 shotgun was covered by laws sold in the press as covering machine guns.

If I am mistaken about the ability of a person to perform a current registration of an AOW, please put me straight.
