Let me guess... AMD processor on an VIA chipset?

Odds are you've got IRQ conflicts and need to free up connections. One option is to turn off monitor playback and just port it out the firewire and manually use the record buttons. If it won't play out the fire wire at all... good luck.

I just went through the same thing last night and it took 5 hours to get everything finally adjusted and that included changing BIOS settings, new drivers and some tweeks that I'm glad I could debug C++ code for. Try and make sure the PC is not over clocked and that the hard drives are defragged and error checked. Turn off all other applications also.

On mine, that doesn't start the camera rolling, I have to hit the pair of record buttons. On mine, export to tape just sends the DV signal to the camera, but you still have to start the recording on the camera.
