Staso 0 #1 November 20, 2003 hey, anyone here owns pentax optio s4 digital camera ? if you do, can you give me your opitions, likes and dislikes about the camera ? i'm not looking for anything serious, just a small camera with decent picture quality that i can carry with me all the times. this camera seems to fit this pretty well, it has impressive number of features and it's ridiculously small. here is a link to the camera specs: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Pentax/pentax_optios4.asp stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... PhillyKev 0 #2 November 20, 2003 I'm thinking that they're sold in the US under a different brand, can't remember which though. Might get more response if you check that out. Possibly Canon?
Nightingale 0 #3 November 20, 2003 Personally, I went with the Olympus Camedia. It takes wonderful pictures, and Olympus is a very trusted name. A major difference between the two cameras is that on the Olympus, you can add different lenses, while it doesn't look like that's a possibility with the optio. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Olympus/oly_c750uz.asp You can't just look at megapixels... you also have to look at optics... how does the camera interpret depth of field? digital images traditionally appear flat compared to regular photographs, but the superior optics in the olympus minimize this issue. When I was camera shopping, I talked to my friends in the photography/film industry (I was working in the industry at the time), and every single one of them suggested olympus. I love my camera. Its not quite as compact as some of the other models, but definitely small enough to go anywhere.
Staso 0 #4 November 20, 2003 are you saying that they might be sold under canon brand name or that i should consider canon ? :) it's sold as pentax, i'm pretty sure about that. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... Staso 0 #6 November 20, 2003 Nightingale, as i mentioned, i'm not looking for anything serious, so changing lenses is not a question for me. i don't even care about mega pixels, to be honest. i don't need 2400*1800-like resolutions, since majority of us don't use resolutions of our monitors higher then 1280*1240 and i don't plan on printing the pictures. something simple and small to have for every occasion. and i'm particularly interested to hear from people who owns this camera, or pentax optio s, which is predecessor of s4. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... If you want a camera that's really small, with still decent picture quality, try to find a digital elph. Not the newest one out there, since you don't care about picture quality, just one from that series. They have a metal case (and it helps, I've dropped mine a couple of times and it is still "as new") and they are really small. Try to find an S200 or something you should be able to find one for 200 bucks or so. Iwan
PhillyKev 0 #8 November 20, 2003 Yeah, that's what I have, an S230. Really like it. Fits in front jeans pocket and very sturdy. Main downside is proprietary battery so if it dies you can't just pop in some AAs in an emergency. But I keep a fully charged backup with it and haven't had any problems yet. The111 1 #9 November 20, 2003 Looks a lot like a Casio Exilim. VERY similar design and specs. I have the Exilim Z3, no complaints... they just started making a "Z4".www.WingsuitPhotos.com
