Metal D-ring compatibility

Hi,

I bought a new used rig but it came with a pillow reserve handle.

I want to change it to a D-ring and saw in the user manual that there is only one D-ring item for Icon rig, no matter the size of the container.

Question is: Can any D-ring be fitted in my rig or do i need to order one from Aerodyne?

You will need it from Aerodyne. D-handles of different manufacturers have different lengths of the steel cable and different types of pins.

Nobody changes the size of the handle based upon the size of the container, that is not unusual. they all have the same handle 'length' in terms of where they go into the pocket in the webbing.

However, you can get handles of a different shape in other respects. I'm a big fan of the low profile handle shown in the attached pic. It was not an option that was listed as available, but any mfg should be able to provide it if asked.

The simple answer is to order a new - steel - ripcord form Aerodyne. Remember to tell Aerodyne the serial number and date of manufacture of your Icon.

Riggers are allowed to substitute "similar TSOed components" - made by other manufacturers - but brings up a bunch of compatibility questions that are best answered by a rigger who was his hands on the components.

You would need to order a metal D handle from Aerodyne. The handles are a special size to match the pocket on the main lift web. Aero Tech builds the Icon and the if you contact Sandy@flyaerodyne with your rig serial number, we can get you the proper handle. Thanks for buying Aerodyne products!
