jumperconway 0 #5 November 22, 2003 QuoteGood for you. At least you lived, this time. Next time, you may not be so lucky. Get off of yourself. Arrogance in this sport is the number one killer. Even over ignorance. Thanks for your opinion. I happened to set aside my pride and post my ignorance and misfortune thrice so that others may not repeat my ordeal. Fortunately I was experienced enough to walk away from it and post about it so that others may learn from my mistakes and not repete them! I could have very easily been in the incidents report as an injury or God forbid, a fatality. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=760703;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
AggieDave 6 #6 November 22, 2003 Same thing happened to me when I posted a thing in General where I nearly spiraled in due to a loss of altitude awareness. I ended up having to do the landing of a lifetime and I got lucky. Instead of taking it for what it was worth and saying "yeah, don't loose altitude awareness while in a mal" folks bashed the shit out of me. Saying it was physically impossible to land where I did, etc. Well, I say thanks for posting your mal and what you had to do to overcome it! If it was arrogance with you, you would have been dead a long time ago! (get your butt up here to jump our new Beech 99)--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Michele 1 #9 November 22, 2003 QuoteGet off of yourself Mr. Hemingway: I've read a whole lot of your past writings, but this phrase is by far the most telling and interesting one of your career. I must ask: did you research the topic matter? Or did you perhaps misunderstand and/or misread the original post? See, I read it more like:"wow, I had a mal, and then PD got an article on it on the front page. Isn't that a weird coincidence? It looks like others had this problem, too, and PD wanted to make sure everyone was aware of it. Good thing, too, because now we can all be a bit safer." Your response seems to indicate you think the original poster was taking credit for PD's study and article. I disagree - and while you may have perceived it as a negative, as someone who jumps a PD reserve, I am thrilled to know more about the canopy which may save my life....and more than pleased to know they are on top of it and will get information out to the jumping public by whatever means they have available. Your commentary is unnecessarily harsh, in my opinion, and belies the underlying message I believe you intended to convey - and that is simply "be really aware of what you're flying, what will save your life, and the service bulletins and cautions issued by the manufactorers of said parachute." That is what you meant.... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
