RevJim 0 #27 November 25, 2003 QuoteChainsaw? pussy. Ever swing an axe for 8hrs? THAT is hard work! Yep. http://www.discoverycenter.net/facilities.htm This makes me so sad. I spent 5 weeks there, the summer I was 15, working for minimum wage ($3.35 an hour, if I remember correctly) for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. I did a search for Statehouse Lake Youth Conservation Camp, and found this. It's just so sad. I look at those pictures.... the cabins I lived in, the lodge I relaxed in, the sauna by the lake I sat and sweated in, all just a family retreat now. And it was a place I wanted to send my children, to learn the value of nature and hard work. ~sigh~ It sucks when some things change. It's your life, live it! My dad got me a job like that to teach me the value of money and hard work. Mowing a museums lawn in Florida during the summer. 14.5 acres. You never finished. Unless you live here, you don't understand that you have to mow weekly. Of course, it took a week to mow it. I already understood the value of a dollar, that is why I wanted a job. AggieDave 6 #29 November 25, 2003 That looks a hell of a lot like the camp in Ernest Goes To Camp... Yeah, I basically grew up in the woods, but I really learned the value of hard work and swinging an axe building Bonfire at A&M. You're right, though, times change.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

After a little digging, even sadder news: http://www.dwd.state.wi.us/dwd/dwdhistory/wcc/ Not only was the camp I went to shut down, so were the rest. These are sad times.
