Jonathan Brandis Died?!

Recommended Posts

I got a call last night from my sister telling me that Jonathan Brandis died! Does anybody remember this guy? He was such a cutie! He was in the Neverending Story 2 and a show called Seaquest. I went to several websites and none of them could confirm what he died from. There was a lot of speculation that it was suicide. Has anybody else heard about this?

I guess they haven't released the Coroner's report then. I wonder where these people got the idea that he committed suicide because of his use of accutane. Stupid rumors......but who knows? It might be true, but that would be seriously fucked up.

There's another website - http://sonafide.com/ - that has some on going information and the most of it that I have seen. The coroner's report should eventually come out though...

Apparently it may have been a suicide - http://www.suntimes.com/output/entertainment/cst-ftr-xray20.html. (scroll to the bottom of the page)

I too had a crush on him when I was younger. This is just terrible.

I guess physical appearance is just that important to people. Personally, I wouldn't put myself in that much danger.

Acting was his career - he had to look good for his job. That medicine isn't just for a few zits. It's for acute acne. The kind that turns your whole face into a painful, volcano-studded pizza. Accutane is not a vanity drug. It's serious business. You're supposed to be closely supervised by a doctor. If his physician was doing his job (assuming JB was under a physician's care), it's hard to imagine he could've become suicidal without anyone noticing...

So sad. :(

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

Not entirely true, if so, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Buscemy and other like them would be out of work. :D:D

If you base your 'income' on looks, you'll have a very short career.

Forgive me here for a second, but what is accutane?

Acne medicine. I used to be on it when I was in high school. They told me it might make me suicidal...it never did, but I know there have been more than a few people kill themselves over it.

The Dr. said like one in every 6 or 7 thousand who take it, attempt suicide. He said that it could just be because they have chronic acne, and have nothing to do with the medicine...so it's hard to say.

Poor guy. I don't remember him having acne. Maybe I'm just remembering him before he hit puberty or something. It's really sad.

By my calculations he is (was) 27 this year... I'd imagine he hit puberty before that... did he just start taking Accutane now? Or he took it years ago and the side effect is happening now? Anyone have any reliable source referring to the Brandis/Accutane link?

I also took this stuff in high school, was told of many possible side effects it could have, but all of them were physical. That said, it was a rough experience, but worth it... my skin became super sensitive to sunlight and my lips were like falling off in chunks every day despite the gallons of chapstick I put on. I'm grateful for it though.

I don't think that's that odd. My one friend didn't start taking it until she was 23. She wanted to put off using anything like Accutane until she was sure that other stuff wasn't going to work and sure that she wasn't going to "grow out" of it. Acne was quite painful (physically) for her....so I think the comments saying that it's all for looks are a bit off.
There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

I think it is just a rumor, nothing more. I used to take Accutane when I was 19 years old. Yes, it is not for everyone because it has been known to cause liver damage and severe depression. My dosage of Accutane was above the norm. 40 MG per day for four months. The only thing I experienced while on it is very dry skin.

I'm very sorry to hear Jonathan Brandis. I do remember him when I was a young teenager back in early 90's.
