I know AF1 has state-of-the-art SAM supression systems, but the bad guys have been known to get lucky with those SA-7s), and it sends a powerful message on several levels:

He didn't take Airforce One. I agree though, it's a gutsy move to be there.

Ah. The Prez's plane (whichever USAF aircraft he is on at the time) is always called "Air Force One" - that must have been what spoofed me.

Must have been a C-17 or something else that wouldn't draw undue attention.:)

He didn't take Airforce One.

That would have been STUPID....not ballsy. :D

I didn't say that he bought a ticket from TWA. Airforce One may be a little showy for that part of the world. I'm sure that the US military has aircraft that can get him in and out with the same degree of safety.

edited to add: I know that Airforce One is the designation that is given to whatever plane that is transporting the president. I'm refering to his 747 in the above statement.

hence my comment that unless he took a boat over there, he flew in on Airforce One. :)

Isn't his helicopter refered to as Marine One? I guess boats aren't the only other option.

I just heard that he Bush did use Airforce One (747) to fly to Bagdad. Earlier it was reported that he used a military jet.

I'm sorry - I don't want the economy to get any worse, I don't want any more Americans to die in either country, or any American by terrorists on our own land. I'm a liberal, thus proving your thought wrong.

So you want GWB to succeed, because he wants exactly what you want.

I too am I liberal who wants the same things as Bo. Does that mean I want GWB to succeed? Sure. Does that mean I want GWB to be President? Absolutely not. I don't like Bush. Does that mean that I want him to screw up the country just so a Democrat can be in office? Hell no.

Now, if they both went out to the front line to raise the morale of those troops, then I would be impressed. I've never subscribed to the idea that one persons life is any more important than the next guy. We are losing Americans on almost a daily basis between Iraq and Afghan - I find the amount of work and effort of security to protect one person sickening.

BTW - think any of those troops asked Bush why he is cutting their benefits? Why their families are on food stamps back home? How much money did he waste going over there that could have been used for Medical Support for the troops, food for the troops, benefits for the families at home.

It doesn't make much sense at all to me. Other than make my opinion known and vote for my candidate when the next election comes around, what am I supposed to do? Draft comprehensive legislation to turn the economy around, stabilize the Middle East, end terrorism, and bolster the economy? I don't think so. Write my elected representatives? More people will read my opinion here.

If you or JoeyRamone has any great ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Wow. Why shouldn't he say what he wants to say? I believe that ChasingBlue has the absolute right to say whatever he wants within the guidelines set forth herein, with or without "doing something". Just, Joey, as you do.

And as I do.

My opinion? I thought it was very very impressive that President Bush would deliberately risk his life to show the troops that they are supported, and to send the sort of message he sent to Iraq and to the rest of the world.

I, for one, was pleased when I heard the news and saw the footage.

Walk yourself into the local VA Hospital and write letters for an elderly man whose family is far away, visit with a vet who has many sotries to tell and no one to listen, go to your local homeless shelter and find out how many vets you run into then offer your services for the day, check your local church and find a family with someone stationed over seas who is getting to visit home for the holidays and buy them some cool tickets for a game or concert, buy some phone cards and send them to a near by base, they'll see that they get to a soldier's family, ask the people around you if they have friends or family in the service and then play secret santa to a serviceman/woman who is deployed, take them a tree and have a nice christmas dinner sent over to their house (if you need people to do this for look around this site, there seem to be a lot of military connections here) There is TONS you and I can do sitting in our comfy houses to thank those who give so much for so little.

Why their families are on food stamps back home?

Let me tell you somethin about that. I'm ALL about giving the military pay and benefits...BUT....I spent 9 years 6 months and 6 days active duty. Let me tell you something about military pay! The ONLY reason anyone qualifies for food stamps is the fact that #1 They don't pay SHIT in taxes. #2 They probably have several kids. After I got out of the military I realized JUST HOW MUCH money I made. As a Staff Sergeant (E-5) with 8+ years in with $385 in special duty pay and something like $775 in housing I brought home about 1400-1500 per pay check. I was makin damn decent money. Then I got out and started paying more taxes in a 2 week pay cheack than I did all month in the military. It ain't that bad.....REALLY!

Well if you would like to know...GWB actually did take airforce one to bagdad. He was the first ever US president to visit Iraq. The president snuck onto airforce one in the morning...the ground crew was told that the plane was just going to go up for some matinence, but GWB in a baseball hat, snuck onto the plane with his gaurds and took off for iraq. over england, a british airways plane thought he spotted airforce one off of his wing, he radioed over the intercom "is that air force one"...the airforce one pilot said back, "No, gulfstream 5, sorry".
if anybody hear knows airplanes, its hard to mix up a gulfstream 5 and airforce one

and i think GWB should have taken two 747's. I think he should have two air force ones...why??? well because one for himself, and one for his huge set of balls he has to do this!!! he is the man

what a huge rally for our troops. most presidents and people would just do it via phone or tv, not actually visit the country we are fighting. i am willing to be most people here wouldnt even go over there to talk to the troops...you could put me on the first flight to thank them!

when we all eat our thanksgiving dinner, remember we can because of those men and women overseas, and never ever forget it!!

I do nothing huh? Well, glad you are the expert on my life and what I have done.

I can talk because I did make a differance from the time I entered 7th grade, up to the age of 25. I did a lot during those years on a full time basis, and now I try to do something when I have the time.

Just to go on the record. If I was sitting in Baghdad I would greatly appreciate this gesture. I have been "Rent A Crowd" for numerous idiots that wanted to "Visit the troops" on holidays and hated it. This was a bit differen't though. I thinks it's damn cool!

You think quade and ChasingBlueSky and mikkey would ever agree with that? Never! It did show balls and concern for our troops.
