WFFC 1 #1 November 30, 2003 So, you've traveled to a dropzone far away from home and you're putting everything on the credit card. You prepay for X amount of jumps (to get you started) but the weather does not cooperate and you do not get your prepaid X amount of jumps in. Since the DZ charged you the 3% up front, did you get your 3% back on the tail end or just the 'cash value' of what you paid. Thoughts? Opinions? Note: If a merchant runs a credit card they pay a fee for the service, generally in the 2.x% area. When they credit this back to your card, they also get the 2.x% back. WFFC 1 #3 November 30, 2003 Quotei try and pay cash when i pre pay. I generally do too, unless I'm on vacation. Then most everything goes on the card and I keep my cash handy for other things.
wingnut 0 #4 November 30, 2003 nope ddn't get the 3% back.. that is for the transaction fee and well not sure but when they refund your card they might even have to pay a fee too but i don't think any place will ever try to charge you for that fee.. just the first one for the debit from the cc......... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
WFFC 1 #5 November 30, 2003 Quote...well not sure but when they refund your card they might even have to pay a fee too... If the business owner has signed a very bad merchant agreement, they have to pay the fee on the backend. Most merchant agreement refund the fee with monies returned. It's a cost of doing business. TheShit 0 #7 November 30, 2003 It is my understanding that if any business charges thier customers a fee to use a credit card, it breaks the merchant agreement. If the merchant finds out, they will likely cancel thier agreement with the DZ. The idea is so people will want to use credit cards not cash, and that is why they do not allow business to charge a fee back to the customer.
Dumpster 0 #8 November 30, 2003 Our DZ doesn't charge the extra 3% or whatever - Cash or credit, it's all the same here. Easy Does It
WFFC 1 #9 November 30, 2003 QuoteReally? Every place I've ever worked the 2-3% is charged on a credit as well as on a sale. I posed the question to several friends who for various reasons have a merchant account. Out of the 12 that I asked, 9 got a credit for the fee when credits were issued, 1 had a fee on both ends and two did not have a fee when credits were issued, only the initial fee on the front end. If a business takes visa, mastercard, and/or american express they have already agreed, in writing, to not charge customers the credit card fee. Additionally, they have also agreed, in writing, to not imposing minimum transactions sizes (i.e. minimum charge $10 is not acceptable). It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention

jumperconway 0 #12 December 1, 2003 In my merchant agreement, I get the original fee returned as well. As for the pricing of merchandise, I discount according to payment type. One thing most people don't understand is that the bank/check cards have the highest % charge for most merchants.
jumperconway 0 #13 December 1, 2003 Question, If you are paying by credit card, why not leave the card open then close it out when you're done?

A good attorney (and the credit card companies have them) would make mincemeat out of that approach, should it become a major issue. Just be thankful it hasn't so far and hope that continues.
