The "shuttlecock position"

Recommended Posts

So I'm playing Trivial Pursuit last night, and one of the questions is something like: "What term for a skydiving freefall position derives its name from its similarity to a badminton bird"
Does anyone actually use the term "shuttlecock position"? Viking - maybe, but I don't see anyone else in freefall looking like a shuttlecock.

BTW, fuck you too Donnie boy, OSU ROCKS!!

Cool ! Always glad to add another name to my listing of "Buckeye-Loving Idiots To Hate." Is 'WrongWay' one word, or two ? Would you like to be listed by nickname, or real name ? :P

I used to list by I.Q., but my computer won't recognize a number below 30, so the list was always blank when I printed it. :D

You're just pissed cuz you haven't had the national championship for how long?? B|

Wrong Way is two words, if your tiny anti-osu brain can handle two at a time. ;)

No, the "shuttlecock position" is what they used to call belly-to-earth.

The important question here is did you win the game of trivial pursuit?

Of course.

I've done a shuttlecock with several dz.commers before, but it's not the belly to earth position. It works best with 3 people, but 4 or 5 could do this: Each person stands facing each other and you grab the person's ring cover to the right and left of you. Then just launch it out of the plane keeping the upper body close and the legs spread wide. See the shuttlecock now ? The natural position of your bodies creates a head down FAST moving object that resembles a shuttlecock. I got video of one jump we did in Perris last year.

And Don would be right...

Seth, are you even fimiliar with a "shuttlecock" position anymore? :P

A proper horny gorillia is launched as a belly round, transitions to leg locks then opens up into a leg locked formation with no arm grips. It will spin for a while then will blow apart.

That's the position you're in at pull time, right?
Unless you're Erk with a Cobalt - in which case you say "Hey ya'll! Watch this, and get video! It'll be cool!"

I've used the term shuttlecock and heard it used for a position that helps teach people head-down flying.. just hold onto them by their mudflaps and they go wherever you want them to.. it allows their arms to be free so they can feel what happens as they change their leg and arm and body positions..
