Kramer 0 #1 December 3, 2003 I read so damn much about "Mr. Bill" on these forums, yet I really don't know what it means. From context clues, I think I've gathered that it possibly means jumping out of a plane without a rig, then holding onto someone while they deploy their rig, thus saving your life. Argh...help! -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!
AggieDave 6 #2 December 3, 2003 Sort of, but both ppl are wearing rigs. Jump out, hold on, one deploys. If you are able to hold on, then you hold on for a bit, then you let go and deploy your own rig. Kinda fun..sorta meh.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." brits17 0 #3 December 3, 2003 for clarity, both jumpers wear rigs. one jumper hangs on for dear life to the front of the other. passenger usually wrapping legs around the bottom of the other's container, arms/hands on the mudflaps, and head should be buried in the other's chest. as the "carrier" exits he deploys within 2 seconds. obviously a low airspeed is wanted for the passenger to be able to hang on. once they both are under the same parachute, the passenger has the ability to let go when he wishes. quite the fun ride _______________________ aerialkinetics.com
Kramer 0 #4 December 3, 2003 I like it! Someday I must try... (anyone have any video of themselves on a Mr. Bill jump...I'd like to see something like that). -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!
Slappie 9 #5 December 3, 2003 For someone your size Brit I can see it being rather fun as the passenger. Now say I wanted to do a Mr Bill I would have to find someone the size of AggieDave and hanging to AD during a skydive just doesn't sound that apealling to me No offence my lil aggie brother.. elfanie 0 #9 December 3, 2003 Quote Are the openings really rough on a Mr. Bill. -Kramer Not that I've done it..*snort* but some people were talking about it at the DZ this weekend. The one guy said he'd done it..and litereally looked at his hands afterwards to see if he'd sheered off the skin from his fingers. According to him....you're really not going to come out of a mr bill as a passager without some war wounds to prove you did it. He said he was amazed at exactly how tough it is..and how painful. From what I hear...it's the type of thing to be done to say you did it....not because you enjoyed doing it. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings
Kramer 0 #10 December 3, 2003 Can it be done when the passenger weighs more than the (insert word for "non-passenger" here)? I'm like 170lb, I think the passenger aspect of it sounds the most fun, though I might have a hard time finding someone bigger (preferrably a girl!) to pax with...so yeah, do they have to weigh more? -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!! chopchop 0 #14 December 3, 2003 sbs and I did one last Chistmas in Elsinore.. it was painless and fun but waaaayyyyyy chilly. Steve was climbing all over and then just hung upside down from his feet in my risers. The problem was when he decided to let go and his feet were stuck. Luckily we were pretty high because it took us about 1,500 feet to get his monster feet out from between my risers and helmet. The side mount video camera didn't help matters.. chopchop gotta go... VanillaSkyGirl 6 #17 December 3, 2003 QuoteFrom what I hear...it's the type of thing to be done to say you did it....not because you enjoyed doing it. That was not true for me. I thoroughly enjoyed mine. I had no pain, but my opening was nice/soft. It is all about good packing and pulling sub-terminal! Also, we used a large canopy, and I am only 97 lbs. I used to rockclimb, so I had to use a climbing technique to get on Sluggo's shoulders (large guy) as I am really small. I had my left hand holding the riser in front of me (his right) with my left leg bent/stepping on his thigh, and I fully extended my right leg and flagged my right arm for leverage as I high-stepped with my left leg to get my right leg around his shoulders. My Sluggo, Andy, had done at least a dozen Mr. Bills before and only half of his had been successful. It was my first, and he told me afterwards that it was his best ever. My hands froze, though, so I had to reheat them somehow before jumping off. (Wear gloves!) It was a couple of months ago in Perris. We exited at 13500 (extra altitude!). I dove off Andy at 5000 and pulled around 3500. Also, it was my 100th jump on the sunset load (awesome sunset), and I have the whole thing on video. SkyPsycho 0 #18 December 3, 2003 QuoteBe very careful regarding where and how you take grips doing Mr. Bill dives. I've seen three people break arms attempting them. also: if you decide to do a mr bill, have someone who knows how and has done one to give you some pointers. me and my buddy tried one like 7 years ago. a few things were going against us. 1-noone at the dz really knew how to do one, so we just decided to figure out ourselves. 2-instead of grabbing the chest strap, i put my arms around his back over the main lift webbing and wrapped my legs around his.. we used a 230. this is a good thing although i know people who have done them on as small as a 120 3-the pilot didnt hear anyone tell him to make a pass, so when we noticed we werent going over the dz and said something, he was pissy, and decided not to do a cut or slow down the otter. we got slammed, i tore all the muscles in my arms, and in the process, really put a good hammerin on my buddys back, and while peeling off him, my chin ate his foot as i passed by it. i woke up about 1500 feet later on my back, and rolled over and opened. my arms hurt for weeks, and his back still gives him pain. live and learn. or just find out how to do it right the first time without getting f'd up. _______________________________ HK MP5SD.........silence is golden
