Muenkel 0 #1 December 4, 2003 Today I was fortunate enough to be examined by a highly regarded neurologist at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital. I was put through a battery of tests that I did not fair too well in. I'm scheduled to go into the hospital on the 15th for a new battery of tests. The prognosis at this point is a 12-18 month recovery. That means I am almost basically laid up for most likely a year and a half. The good news is, he believes I will fully recover depending on how the new tests come out. I can't believe it, 12-18 months. It seems like an eternity. I am cleared to go to Florida this winter, but only if I fly. If I do, I will have my car shipped down there. I may have to fly home for follow up visits though. I did ask him if I would skydive again and he did say yes. The best I can do is take one day at a time. Girlfalldown 0 #2 December 4, 2003 I'm so sorry to hear this. Wish there was something I could say to make you feel better. I'll just send you some good vibes and hugs. Hang in there and be strong. At least you know you'll be jumping again and think of all the jump money you'll save!! -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.) Daizey 0 #4 December 4, 2003 Hang in there Chris. Everything is gonna work out for you. I'm keeping ya in my thoughts and prayers. Just be thankful that it is only 12-18 months. I know that seems horrible to you now, but just think it could've been longer or the doctor may have said you may never recovery completely. As for skydiving again...i came across This earlier. It was written by Michele awhile ago, but its so beautifully written that i went back and found it for you to read.... You really gave yourself the best piece of advice...take it one day at a time. Right now the timing may seem like an eternity, but it will go by faster than you think. And just remember you have tons of people who love and care about you and want nothing more than for you to get better soon!! *daizey*
hooked 0 #5 December 4, 2003 Oh, Chris, I'm sorry the news wasn't better. There is hope there will be a full recovery so keep that as your focus point. So, you get to winter where it's warm, work on your recovery and be better in 12-18 months, take 1 day at a time and try to enjoy life. If I could, I'd reach through the internet and give you a big hug! Take care, and just think of all the PW'ing you can do! Hugs, Jan -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings.
Jessica 0 #6 December 4, 2003 Focus on the words "fully recover." When I was in the hospital arguing with the doctor about how much morphine I should get, I was struck with overwhelming gratitude that I wasn't listening to him describe how I could live a full life as a quadraplegic. Count your blessings. You will get better. That's more than a lot of people can say. I'd have titled this post, "I received some pretty GOOD news today." Hugs to you.Skydiving is for cool people only
Muenkel 0 #7 December 4, 2003 I know he said "fully recover", but all the tests are not done yet. I have to think positive. He did not mince words when he told me that the blow to my head should have been fatal. He told me that someone up above must really be looking out for me. You're right, I must think on the positive...but it's such a long time. I was hoping to finish my AFF this spring and get my A license. Lee03 0 #8 December 4, 2003 Sure it's a long time, but "Full Recovery"! That gives you the best thing to look forward to. And, he said that you WILL be able to skydive again! Just hang in there man! kpjumps 0 #11 December 4, 2003 Chris, A full recovery! My God, my heart dropped when I read the title and I don't even know you. That is wonderful...And in the grand scheme of things 18 months is the bat of an eye. And I know it might not be a popluar opinion around here but if you are looking at living life and never skidiving again over not living life at all, well... And the realy great news is your gonna get both, in due time. Think about the full recovery and savor the time until you get there. I am sure there is lots you can due, its just gotta be relaxing stuff, right? But that is easier said than done. So, I'll send up a few more prayersHope your day is wonderful, KrisYour character will ultimately determine your destiny.

jfields 0 #15 December 4, 2003 Chris, While there are more tests to be done, take it as good news. Here are the good things: 1) You are alive, and you very nearly weren't. 2) You are physically mobile, with your intellect also intact. 3) You have found a doctor that seems to know what is going on. 4) The prognosis, though long, is good. 5) Your friends support you. 6) The sky will still be there, whenever you are ready.
