jb092 0 #3 December 4, 2003 I would send it out. Call A nearby motorcycle shop they do custom paint jobs on helmets alot and would know who to goto or what to use. What could possibly go wrong?
cutaway 0 #4 December 5, 2003 I've had a couple of helmets painted (Sky Systems Factory Diver, Oxygn). I took them to a place that specializes in motorcycles and motorcycle helmets. For a single color, the price was about $40 including prep and primer. A 3-color job which required masking was under $100. In addition to the painting skills and materials, the most important thing is doing very good prep work. I think that even a single color paint job would be difficult to do well with off-the-shelf spray paint.
kai2k1 0 #5 December 5, 2003 I'd get all weather exterior from Sears and a nice roller. j/k. Talk to someone in your area that does airbrushing, or call a tatoo studio. There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan

Swoopyswoop 0 #7 December 5, 2003 I airbrushed mine, a oxygn A3 and I put a huge bloodshot eyeball right on the top of it. I used a combination of paints on mine, I shot the base coat (glossy black) with house of kolors chromium base coat clear coat system 4 coats on that. Shot it with a devibless hvlp super pro detail gun, set at about 14 psi through the tip. Added just a touch of maroon to lighten the black a little. Then saved it with 3 coats of clear. Then shot the actual graphics with a paint made just for airbrush thats water base and whos name I cant mention here. The only problem with water base is it has a possibilty of fading after a few years in the sunlight but if your helmet stays in your gear bag you dont have to worry too much about that. I shot the bottom graphics with an aquarius sfd2 airbrush and a #112 tip and needle. Set about 4.5 to 5 psi through the tip. the bottom 4 layers were all saved with clear, and the top 3 layers were saved together in 2 clear stages. Give me an idea what you want as far as graphics and I can kinda tell you how difficult it will be to shoot and approx what it will cost you, time etc etc. Anything I can do to help let me know "when I die, I want to go like my grandfather while im sleeping, not like the passengers riding in the car with me Swoopster A.S.S. #6 Future T.S.S holder

Swoopyswoop 0 #9 December 5, 2003 I dont know how good these will turn out but here goes I got some funky light going on in my room and it makes the helmet look pink LOL. The bloodshot actually goes all the way around but get lighter to one side and gives it an effect that its 3d. Swoopyswoop 0 #11 December 5, 2003 Its a shame I cant get the lighting to show the veins and the detail work. The iris is all metal flake and looks really trippy with the sun. Let me see if I can fool with the light and get a better shot "when I die, I want to go like my grandfather while im sleeping, not like the passengers riding in the car with me Swoopster A.S.S. #6 Future T.S.S holder

JadedLady 0 #14 December 5, 2003 Wow... That's all i can say. When you first said you put an eyeball on it, I was expecting a silly little crayon-like drawing (that's the best I would be able to do) but that is just incrediable. When I get mine personalized, can I use you? ;)~~~~ Rachel ~~~~~~~~~~~ -Converting the world one whuffo at a time.
sunnydee123 0 #15 December 5, 2003 WHOA....now there is some serious info for painting my helmet. I wasn't looking for anything fancy - I just want my WHITE helmet to be bright yellow and maybe a bit of blue to match my jumpsuit....just cause I'm a dork and like things to match. But I also don't have all the airbrush tools you obviously do so my little project might be a bigger deal....I'll look into it some more but thanks for all the tips and AWESOME job on your helmet my friend! mirochristie 0 #16 December 5, 2003 My husband loves to make things himself. He has made helmets and brackets form scratch. He loves painting them afterwards. Here are some pics of his latest paintjob. You can look him up in Forums. He`s YM4LiquidSky @(^_^)@
vonSanta 0 #17 December 5, 2003 Pretty awesome paintjobs. That eye one looks so real it's scary too. YM4 0 #18 December 5, 2003 I just finished the helmet last night. Its not 100% what I wanted but, you can't tell from 13,000 ft. I never use air brush, although Its better. I usually use BOYD Enamel Paint and Model Master Enamel from the can. These are used for RC car models. You can find them at your local RC hobbie shop. The cool thing about the paint I used this time is that they have a pearl look, even the clear coat. That gives a sparkling look. If you want it. There are a lot of people out there that can do a better job, like guys that paint Chopper bikes or helmets. Thats top ship. I just do it for fun. Hope this info could help you. sunnydee123 0 #20 December 5, 2003 so if you just paint from the can, do you just tape up the edges and then hand paint your design? Mine should be easy - I am just looking for a solid color (bright yellow). I'm not looking for fancy and don't want to spend tons of cash just cause I need to color coordinate Thanks for the info and again, great job on the helmet! YM4 0 #22 December 5, 2003 It all depends on the desing, if its a solid color make shure you protect whit tape or paper what you dont want to paint. I you can stip naked your helmet better. first you sand it to leave a smooth surface. wipe the helmet with a humid cloth to take of the dust. The painting part is not that easy, you never want to leave the thing pressed cause you will make a mess. The best way to spay pain is to stay a feet or more appart from the helmet and... ...do like Mr. Miyagi, spray left, spray right, spray left, spray right, up, down, in, out. then you let dry, please away from fresh cut grass and flying insects. Void the sand also. After its dry you will do the same with the clear coat. Let dry dry and put your helmet back together.
