dropdeded 0 #1 November 11, 2003 Been hearing about Mullins King Air since I first showed up here and now I found out Its gonna be at my local dz soon. Just curious, seems to be a pretty popular jump plane. Have you jumped it? How about throwing in some history if you can. dropdeded------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
RevJim 0 #2 November 11, 2003 Back in 98, I was a student when he came up here for a boogie, and it was an experienced skydiver only boogie. I got an observation ride. That alone hooked me on his plane. In '01, I went to his Halloween boogie, lied on my waiver, finished my training, got my "A" card signed, had him sign my logbook (which is when he got a bit wide eyed), and haven't looked back. When Mike is around, there isn't even any thought about it. You just go and jump, period! It's your life, live it! davelepka 4 #5 November 11, 2003 It really is way faster than anything out there. If you jump it a big boogie, you will pass Super Otters on the way to altitude like they are standing still. I think time to 14k is 7 or 8 minutes.
RevJim 0 #6 November 11, 2003 QuoteWhat makes it so special? because, when either Mike OR Charlie are flying it, it's a fast mother. 7 minutes to 14 or so, and usually less than 15 minute turns. Yea, 4 loads an hour are the norm. SWEET!It's your life, live it! Karma RB#684 "Corcho", ASK#60, Muff#3520, NCB#398, NHDZ#4, C-33989, DG#
skybytch 273 #7 November 11, 2003 I first jumped Mike's plane in California back in early 1993. He came to our dinky little Cessna dz for a $99 boogie til ya puke weekend. I was working at a car dealership at the time; the owner of the business and another employee were pilots and they came asking "who, what, why??" as soon as I arrived at work that Monday morning. They'd never seen anyone descend like that before! Jumped it at WFFC last year and this year too. It's a sweet airplane, and Mike's a fantastic pilot. You'll have a good time.
 jfields 0 #8 November 11, 2003 I actually had a 20+ minute ride to altitude in his plane this year. Granted, we had traffic on the way up.... and altitude was 30k. Nice plane but there are at least 2 other King Airs that I know that are very close to as fast as Mike's. I'd guess around 30 sec or less difference to altitude. They are the King Air at SD Atlanta and Nardi's at Titusville. Mike made me mad at the 02 convention. I got up pretty early one day to do the famed Kiss Pass jump with Sunshine. Checked out my camera before we got on....didn't want to miss this. Got to alti and tried to turn my camera on.....all I could here was beeping and it kept shutting off. Well....AFTER the jump I figured out that the Air Conditioning combined with the moist morning air had caused considerable condensation. I can't believe I didn't get that on film.
