Jumped Mullins King Air ?

Recommended Posts

Been hearing about Mullins King Air since I first showed up here and now I found out Its gonna be at my local dz soon.

Just curious, seems to be a pretty popular jump plane. Have you jumped it?

How about throwing in some history if you can.

Back in 98, I was a student when he came up here for a boogie, and it was an experienced skydiver only boogie. I got an observation ride. That alone hooked me on his plane.

In '01, I went to his Halloween boogie, lied on my waiver, finished my training, got my "A" card signed, had him sign my logbook (which is when he got a bit wide eyed), and haven't looked back.

When Mike is around, there isn't even any thought about it. You just go and jump, period!

What makes it so special?

because, when either Mike OR Charlie are flying it, it's a fast mother. 7 minutes to 14 or so, and usually less than 15 minute turns. Yea, 4 loads an hour are the norm.

SWEET!

I first jumped Mike's plane in California back in early 1993. He came to our dinky little Cessna dz for a $99 boogie til ya puke weekend. I was working at a car dealership at the time; the owner of the business and another employee were pilots and they came asking "who, what, why??" as soon as I arrived at work that Monday morning. They'd never seen anyone descend like that before! B|

Jumped it at WFFC last year and this year too.

It's a sweet airplane, and Mike's a fantastic pilot. You'll have a good time. :)

First 'real plane' I ever jumped, Christmas /New year at Palatka way back in 93/94.

I was impressed, but then I'd only ever seen a Cessna 182, and an Islander up to that point.

I still like it.B|

Jumped it Christmas Day, 2000
Eloy was closed till 12pm,
There was a partial solar eclipse at about 10am
we were in freefall.
I remember it was fairly windy, Andy video'd our
jump and was still getting huge swoops on his 59sqft
canopy.

I've got video of Mike flying a non turbo 205.

:D Yeah, that was fun to watch Mike do that. He was a tad confused when he first got in the plane.

I've made quite a few jumps out of it. Nice plane but there are at least 2 other King Airs that I know that are very close to as fast as Mike's. I'd guess around 30 sec or less difference to altitude. They are the King Air at SD Atlanta and Nardi's at Titusville. Mike made me mad at the 02 convention. I got up pretty early one day to do the famed Kiss Pass jump with Sunshine. Checked out my camera before we got on....didn't want to miss this. Got to alti and tried to turn my camera on.....all I could here was beeping and it kept shutting off. Well....AFTER the jump I figured out that the Air Conditioning combined with the moist morning air had caused considerable condensation. I can't believe I didn't get that on film. [:/]

I did numerous loads out of Mullin's King Air at Rantoul. But my most memorable has got to be the hop n' pop during a rainy part of the convention where I wanted to demo a Crossfire2 canopy. I was in the airplane less than one minute and exited a little above 2k.

I have around 600+ jumps out of that plane.

Amazing. And I doubt anything really comes close.

7 min to 14, and most of my jumps from that plane are 14,500.

He will not level off if he screwed his pattern. In most cases he will just keep climbing. I have done several 15+ loads.

Almost forgot, he is one of the best pilot/spotters there is. If you jumped from Mike's plane and got a bad spot, blame someone else on the load. Probably a gas-passer in the front somewhere. If that's the case, feel lucky you got full altitude. B|

I can't beleive you didn't get that on film either. It was the first and only time i've managed to do a headdown rodeo dive that was actually stable. :)
I have around 50ish jumps from his plane. In rantoul, it's pretty much the only plane i wanna jump.
