AggieDave 6 #2 December 8, 2003 Know what I've done in the past? X-tra large ziplock bags. Use it for all the socks, underwear and such... Then I just crame everything into a army duffel bag I have and don't care.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." sunshine 2 #3 December 8, 2003 If TSA inspects your luggage, get video of it. I wanna see their faces when the vacuum sealed clothes get full of air again. And watching them try to repack it should be funny too. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
riggerrob 643 #4 December 8, 2003 That vacuum-bag gadget was advertised on the Shopping Channel last night. I have also seen them demonstrated at boat shows and RV shows. You could probably also find them at COSTCO, etc.

hooked 0 #7 December 8, 2003 I've used them and they are great!!!! They have some that are made for travel, so you don't need a vacuum to get the air out. Made by Space Bag, they are called Travel Bags. You can find them almost anywhere, just look or ask. PhreeZone 20 #8 December 8, 2003 >Wow, i didn't know straight men went into that store. Why do you think Brains was there? The Vacumn things rock, but for trips they are'nt the best idea. You'll be able to get lots of things packed to go there, but unless you buy another vacumn thing when you want to leave there you won't have the room in your suitcase since nothing is vacumn packed there. Sure you can ship things back, but thats can cost a lot in a hurry if you have to ship a lot of things.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
skymama 37 #9 December 8, 2003 Speaking of traveling, I just bought some luggage locks at Brookstone that are apparently TSA approved. I heard about it on tv first, so it wasn't just the guy in the store telling me they are approved. They are combination locks, but there is also a key lock on it that the TSA is supposed to have a key for. Hopefully they'll lock it back up if they open it! I don't trust those baggage handlers. When I picked up VanillaSkyGirl at the airport, we had to go to the store because her tennis shoes had disappeared! Anyway, just thought I'd let you all know. It was $20 for 2 locks. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
hooked 0 #10 December 8, 2003 The Travel Bags don't require a vacuum. You put your items in, roll up the bag compressing the air out as you roll, then you seal it like a Zip Loc bag. They do save space, especially for those bulky items. Jan -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings. champu 1 #11 December 8, 2003 yeah, I recall seeing an ad for these, essentially it's a big bag you put shirts in and then you close it and put it on the floor and roll on it like an air-locked canopy. it's not quite vacuum packed but it looks to be smaller and you don't need anything special to pack it back up again. PhreeZone 20 #12 December 8, 2003 Ahh.. I use a vacumn pump to seal some of my stuff when I go backpacking to save room unless I absolutly need them. The pump method gives me lots more room in my pack if I keep extra socks and an fleece shirt all sealed up.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Chute 0 #14 December 8, 2003 I know what your talking about. BUT, I saw a show called Haleys Hints on PBS. I have tried it and it works. A shop vac and quality lawn & leaf trash bags. Plus you can also use the shop vac to clean out your car and such.Bottomless Beers and Blue Skies! * Brother_Brian * D.S.W.F.S.B. #

Stacy 0 #18 December 8, 2003 i want to see the looks on teh face sof the custosm officials when they open everything up just because she's *every 5th person in line* or something. Customs doesnt' seem to care if you are suspicious or not. Thsoe people dont' care and will open everything, empty bottles... I've seen nightmares in the US and foreign country entry points in those lines. __

Aviatrr 0 #20 December 9, 2003 Forget those vacuum bags/machines.....get these.. http://www.packmate.com/share/cgi-bin/site.cgi?site_id=packmate&page_id=home I travel for a living....these are what I use....you close them up, then squeeze the air out(fold 'em and sit on 'em). They are not very expensive - I think around $15-20 for a pack of 5. I've been using the same 5 for over a year - and I'm opening and closing them every day I'm away from home, which is half of the year. I got mine from a store at the mall.....I think it was Brookstone... Mike
hooked 0 #21 December 9, 2003 That's the kind I was talking about, no vacuum required! Great way to gain extra space. You can find them almost anywhere, maybe under a different name, but still the same concept. ltdiver 3 #22 December 9, 2003 Why buy any specialty items for this? Just use your regular vaccuum hose, a plastic trash bag, and walla....you have exactly what you want. No extra money spent. Works like a charm! ltdiver Actually, what I do (have been doing for many years now) people make fun of me for! All you have to do is put stuff in huge zip lock bags, sit on them, close them, and there ya go! Lori's method will work well (and cheaply), too. I've been doing the zip lock thing even though people people laugh at me. It saves space. It keeps things nice and organized. It keeps things dry while camping. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
