I want to learn to snow ski

Recommended Posts

Well maybe for the flatlanders:P

Why do you think I have my BIG OLE RED PICK-EM-UP 4x4....I also have chains for all 4 wheels for when it gets REALLLLY bad up there. This winter there will be basically a big trough that the road passes thru on US HWY 2 they have huge snow blowers that toss it up and over the snowbanks. Just wait.. its only the first week of DEC... there will be MANY feet of snow up there by MARCH. I would be really surprised if the snowbanks are less than 25' along the road this year.

It's true; I admit it. I am an east coast flatlander living in the bizarro world of the pacific northwest!:D Where the mountains are grand and I am oh so small comapred to them..I must say though, this is the first time in my life I have ever had to drive to see snow. :S

I LOVE that aspect of living here.

I grew up in a CLIMATOLOGICALLY ABUSIVE Family who made me live in Wisconsin in the winter and Florida all summer long.

At least around here if it snow in the lowlands it melts off within a couple days and I do not have to shovel the stuff:)

Oh, I'm dead serious! I've wanted to try skiing for years and years and never managed to. My kids want to try it too. I never imagined a long weekend would be so expensive though. [:/] Since I'm going to Eloy, I probably won't learn to ski this year. I'll have to keep dreaming about it I guess!

Oregon isn't to fare to drive is it? I have a spare bord and am pretty good at teaching ( so I have been told). I'll teach ya. have spare ski's to but they probly won't fit.

Some one must go to the edge for others to be able to find it. But if you go be sure you can make it back.

Hey have her fly to O'Hare and then you two can fly out here...;)

Plenty of cheap flights to Seattle from there

Most hills offer begginer packages...price would depend on the hill(I take advantage of the packages for the couple of days per season I ski now...last year I paid $30can for rental/lift ticket and a 2 hour course....skipped the course and got a leary look when I told the pro shop guy to max my bindings or I would;))

I am not sure how far you would have to drive to find a hill....but you would not need to go west or too far north to find a smaller hill that will suit your needs as a begginer...do a web search to find a hill closest to you.

You can learn lots in 4 days.(I learned the basics in one run down the mountain....my good childhood friends took me on the nastiest slope at the time..the OMJ.....named that because most ppl said Oh My Jesus!!!!!! when they saw it from the top.)....4 days equals alot of skiing/snowboarding....if you do get to go...get your legs in shape before hand..its more fun that way and less recovery time;)

Now I must promote my home hillB|....Marble Mountain Newfoundland....Although it is nowhere near the size of the best hills in North America (west coast...the rockies)...It is a decient size and has terrain for the begginer to the double black diamond skiers and a atmopshere that will compete with its larger brothers and sisters not only out west but in europe as well...most go to party with friendly ppl and just happen to have a great time skiing while there;)

Funny that you're assuming my groin muscles are out of shape.

See the disrespect ? That's what I get for trying to help.

Go for it, home girl ! Please call me when you're screaming in agony as you try to get out of bed the next day.....first I'll say "I told ya so...", then I'll empathize with you. ;)

(EDIT: Beer for first post from my new home PC).:)

Thanks, Kelli! You and Derek are always so nice! B|

We have a credit card at work that earns sky miles. I told my dad today that we had finally earned our first ticket. He said, "all right, where do you want to go this time?". LOL. At the time, I was just informing him, I really had no intentions to go anywhere. But, then once I started thinking about, "hmmm, where would I go", the skiing immediately popped into my head. I wonder if I could get away with another trip after taking 4 weeks off this year.

Edit: Oops...I got too into "Average Joe" and forgot to thank the others who offered to help. Thanks you too Amazon, Skygal and Tictoc! As in true dz.com style, you all rock! Now I just have to see how much Eloy, Christmas, doctors appts., etc. are going to break me this month. Maybe I should go play the lotto on Wednesday! :S

...and I live 20 minutes from some slopes.

Rev-
Speedbumps maybe, but not slopes. Unless it takes 30+ minutes to get to the top riding the high speed quad, you're not on a slope. ;)

It's still slopes, Michael. :P

Now had i said mountains, that would be a lie. ;)
More like hills with groomed snow. [:/]

Vail. Some day,I'll make Vail. Driven through many, many times. Some day, I'll stop.

I can drive to from FL that's not too far of a drive?

I would recomend flying to norway. It's hard to drive :P
If you go snowboarding, remeber to wear wrist protectors. You should be prepared to sleep on your stomach, because your butt is going to be sore. (if it isn't, you weren't trying hard enough) ;)

You will learn a lot in 4 days. If what people say about you are right you will rock the slopes on day 4.

I highly recomend going. :)
