crapflinger2000 1 #1 December 9, 2003 Hey, quick one: I have a mongo .txt file that I have to open up in excel so I can manipulate and sort the data. It is large enuff (50+ MB) that it is bottoming out and running out of rows in excel (I get a "File not loaded completely" message or something like that). Anyone know any excel tricks for dealing with this kind of problem? I am looking in the help file as well but you know how easy that is to find stuff in... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? Jimbo 0 #3 December 9, 2003 You're screwed in Excel. Can you import it into Access and manipulate from there? - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
Gawain 0 #4 December 9, 2003 I don't think there's a way to "trick" Excel. If you have MSAccess available, you should be able to import the .txt file into an Access table. Or, the simple way, open the txt file in "Word Pad" and "cut" half of it out and save it as a second file.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! PhillyKev 0 #8 December 9, 2003 Yeah, you just gotta make smaller files. There's no limit on number of rows that I know of, but you're probably maxing out your memory.
Chute 0 #9 December 9, 2003 You can open up your txt file in notepad or word. Select all and copy. Open Excel and past. It will not look pretty at first but after you fix it up some it should work for what you wish to do.Bottomless Beers and Blue Skies! * Brother_Brian * D.S.W.F.S.B. #

Excel, being the POC that it is, has a limit of 65K rows and I think 256 columns. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. vdschoor 0 #12 December 9, 2003 I would use Microsoft Access for those kind of things. You can always cut and paste parts of the data into Excel later, I don't know what you need to do with the data, but query-ing and those kind of things are a lot easier (I think) in Access. Although Excel has quite a few functions for that sort of stuff as well. Iwan
