Brian425 0 #1 December 9, 2003 I am not working right now. Money is a little tight; but, not terrible. I have two RW suits, one I bought and one that was given to me. I drive a friend that I met during AFF and he shares the gas money when we drive to the dz. Would it be ok to give him one of the suits that I have as a gift? I know that it's not new and I feel a little bad giving something that I did not buy new as a gift for him. He needs a suit and it will get him through the spring/summer until he can get his own gear. I have told him that he can jump my rig until he gets a rig of his own. I just feel bad giving a gift I did not buy new. Any opinions? I wish I had the $$$$ to give him a nice gift as he has been very good to me. shmali 0 #2 December 9, 2003 A gift comes from the heart (as cheesy as it sounds) if you are giving it for the shear fact that it is something that he would enjoy/make him happy etc.. Then by all means go ahead. But if your reason is because it is a cheap way out then maybe you should rethink it. Also remember he is a skydiver too so he also knows what it means to be poor. ZoneRat 0 #4 December 9, 2003 It would be a WONDERFUL gift! Even a used jump suit costs 100.00 plus! Check the classifieds! You have two, and you want to share one with your friend... to help him get by for a while... And you're worried that it's not good enough 'cause it aint new?!? I find that touchingly cool. If you feel you want to do more... consider buying one of those disposable cameras, taking shots of him landing, walking in with his (or your) canopy slung over his shoulder maybe some party pics... Pics of mutual friends at the DZ... whatever... take the coolest pics you can... then pack the camera with the jumpsuit and maybe a gift cert for developing. Let him get the film developed and be the first to see what all you put on there for him. Inexpensive... but nice, ya know? Hey, It aint about money or whether it's new or not. He knows you're not workin'. It's all about the love, man. Nightingale 0 #7 December 9, 2003 personally, I'd give him cash to use towards the new suit of his choice (or an alti, or whatever). just get him a gift certificate to the local gear shop. Its one thing to give him the jumpsuit because he needs it and you're being a good friend... but if you do that at the holidays, it just looks like you're being cheap. Brian425 0 #8 December 9, 2003 If I was working cash would not be a problem. I just don't have it. I don't think he expects a gift. I just figured it would be nice to give it to him. I'll wrap it up as nice as I can and give it to him. I'm sure he will appreciate it. It's the best I can do right now and my intentions are good. I think he'll see that. Thanks everyone. rehmwa 2 #10 December 9, 2003 If he wants a new suit, then he can sell the gift. It's a great idea. I really like the idea of the camera though. New jumpers are nuts about pictures of themselves. ... Brian425 0 #11 December 9, 2003 The pictures are a great idea. I've got a few digital pictures of him and a few of all of us AFF students/graduates together. I'll get some pictures printed up today and I'm bringing the suit to the dry cleaners. I'll pack it up with a few of those little "airplane" bottles and a jump ticket. selbbub78 0 #14 December 9, 2003 That's a great idea unless it's an RW suit (everyone knows it's a rare occassion if I do RW). In all seriousness, as everyone already mentioned, it's the thought that counts, and any skydiver would LOVE a suit if they don't have one already, I'm sure.blue non windy, non snowy skies ,"Women fake orgasms - men fake whole relationships" – Sharon Stone "The world is my dropzone" (wise crewdog quote) "The light dims, until full darkness pierces into the world."-KDM
Brian425 0 #15 December 9, 2003 I'll be up this weekend for the party. This out of work thing has been kicking my ass a little. I have some good prospects so hopefully it'll work out. Bubbles this is for Kolos so don't say anything. Joe wants us to jump the prison suits that the tandems wear so there are enough suits for all the students. pleifer 0 #18 December 9, 2003 that would be an awesome gift. money can buy gifts, but alot more though went into this. me everyone is getting cd's, compilations of stuff that I think they will like, and do not have, so I have to sourt though 1000's of tunes to find 10-12 songs that will have personal meaning to them, won't cost me but a quarter a disk, but a lot of thought is going into each one. cause i am on a low budget chritmas, plus only a "halmark" christmas is about money my 2c's is give him the suit it will mean more than anything you could buy _________________________________________ The Angel of Duh has spoke
