The New Skydiver's Ring

This month's "Parachutist" has an advertisement (p.78) announcing "The New Skydiver's Ring."

The set of wings cast in the ring are those of the US Army Airborne. IMO, if you haven't gone to jump school, you shouldn't be wearing those particular wings. There is a long military history associated with them.

While I applaud the idea... Perhaps the manufacturer could work out something with the USPA regarding its wings.

I seen that and thought they were trying to take away my blood wings. I think they should change it to something more along the lines of the USPA symbol.

Being retired military.. I have to agree with you there. Same if those were the gold Navy Parachute Wings.. these are military awards and unless someone earned them in the military.. they should not be allowed to be worn.

While I applaud the idea... Perhaps you folks could work out something with the USPA regarding its wings or design a set of skydiving wings. I’ve owned a set of the Master Blaster’s for a couple of years now and it is a well-crafted ring. Don’t mean to take sales away from you, but in my opinion, its wrong to wear a military item, that you didn’t earn in the military.

Absolutely right. I agree; let us know what their response is to your e-mail. If it's less than favorable, maybe we can offer 'more opinions'.

...and I could see that a skydiver might want to buy a ring like this maybe not realizing the symbolism, then getting into discussions about it with people that graduated Airborne school...then they either wear it and have trouble, or put it in the back of a drawer and wasted all of that money.

My hubby earned those wings and then some, and the only time I'd have them on my body is when I'm wearing his coat. his coat; it has a tab & 2nd Ranger bat scroll on it...proud of my dh!

Apparently this guy sells all sorts of military rings ... I wonder if Parachutist or USPA realize what he's trying to sell off to the "unknowing" skydiving community. I wonder if he thinks we really don't know or wouldn't find out ... pretty underhanded marketing scheme if you ask me ... his sales must be hurting

I agree with you 100%

It is also the Navy's basic parachutist. Even as a Navy Parachute Rigger I would not be cought dead wearing that ring.

I guess they are not selling that many of them so they changed the name to sell to skydivers who don't know better.

I don't have Parachutist yet, but if the wings you refer to are what I think they are:

I've seen a lot of military wearing airborne wings, including USAF and USN. All they had to do was a short course and then 5 static line jumps. Many ROTC cadets get them in summer sessions at the AF Academy. My son (2nd Infantry) has the wings, he did 15 jumps at Benning a few years ago, but was never in an airborne unit.


I have a set of naval aviator wings on display in my office. I'm not a naval aviator, but I was presented with the wings and a diploma by a navy aviation unit in recognition of my support of that unit over a number of years. No-one seeing them in my office is deceived.

On the whole, I think you are getting all upset about something minor. It's not like they are selling duplicates of the Medal of Honor, is it? And you can pick up the actual wings (not just a replica on a ring) at the PX on most bases, or on ebay.
