Guest #2 December 10, 2003 QuoteLt.Colonel Alan West is NOT going to be court martialed! He still will get an article15 though. YaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaY! Good deal. They wouldn't dare court-martial him after the press found out about it. An Article 15 is still a black mark and a career hinderer, though. Did COL David Hackworth mention this case on his site or in his column? mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
Kennedy 0 #3 December 10, 2003 Reminds me of an old sea story. A tank commander (?) was court martialed for shooting at innocent civilians who just happened to be throwing grenades at his men. During the same week an Israeli ship commander ordered his crew to open fire on an approaching raft, because he didn't know if they had grenades [which could have sunk his ship and killed his men]. The Israeli equivalent of SecNav showed up and promoted him on the spot. How can you trust leaders who value the lives of your enemy over those of your men?witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Luv2Fall 0 #5 December 10, 2003 Non-Judicial Punishment as opposed to a Court Martial that, if found guilty, is a Federal conviction. Edited to add: Did I misread your question?
JohnnyD 0 #6 December 10, 2003 QuoteNon-Judicial Punishment as opposed to a Court Martial that, if found guilty, is a Federal conviction. Right. Who is this guy and why was he being considered for a court martial.
Luv2Fall 0 #7 December 10, 2003 I'm not up-to-snuff on him, but I believe he was a Bn Cdr w/ the 4th ID who aggressively interrogated an Iraqai detainee as to prevent an ambush and to save his soldiers. He was/is being charged with Aggravated Assualt by a JAG Officer. I believe or I have heard that all LTC West did was to brandish his pistol & fire two shots into a water barrel to scare said detainee into talking and it worked. captainpooby 0 #8 December 10, 2003 No, it was on Fox news. Colonel West is going to retire as soon as he gets his"non-judicial punishment". Lets hope the General sees fit to make it the least possible. I cant believe it made this far. It reminds me, sort of, like when the lawer refused permission to bomb the convy in Afganistan that OBL was in.
