Target Stores

Recommended Posts

The Following is an e-mail I received from a friend. You know the kind that always ends "please send this to as many people as possible."
Is anyone else familiar with this? Is it true?

TARGET STORES

Vietnam Veterans Association - By Dick Forrey

We asked our local Target store to be a sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event. We received back a reply from Target management that "veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the areas of the arts, social actions, gay and lesbian causes, and education."

My thought: If the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, and veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria, something is wrong at Target. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, but simply sponsorship of an endorsement for a memorial remembrance.

As a follow-up, I E-mailed corporate headquarters and their response was the same.

Personally, I will NOT be purchasing anything at Target Stores again. If the Vietnam Veteran or Veterans in general do not meet their area of giving, then why should I, as a Vietnam veteran, spend my hard earned money in their stores?

TARGET IS FRENCH OWNED! WHAT A SURPRISE!

Target will also not allow the Marines to collect for "Toys For Tots" during the holidays.

snopes says FALSE!

http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/target.asp

The Target Corporation (which now also includes the Mervyn's and Marshall Field's chains of department stores) is an American firm which has been based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, since it began as the Dayton Dry Goods Company in 1902.

Target stores do not directly participate in the collection of toys for the Toys for Tots foundation administered by the U.S. Marine Corps, but this is hardly evidence of an alleged anti-military stance. Other stores have also declined or reconsidered participating in the via in-store toy collection due to security concerns, and according to the USMC, not only are Marshall Field's stores (another chain owned by Target Corporation) taking part in the Toys for Tots program, but Target has donated nearly one million dollars in toys to the Toys For Tots foundation.

False. See here:

In fact, Target is one of the corporate sponsors for the 2003 tour of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Fund's "The Wall That Heals."

BTW, the part "TARGET IS FRENCH OWNED! WHAT A SURPRISE!" - was apparently tacked on by a france-hater after the original urban legend got started.

Ya know.. I don't give a shit who they help / support with their profits.. As long as they have clean organized stores without long lines and the items I need at competitive prices located conveniently near me, I will patronize their stores..

Does your local grocery store support the Memorial? Geez! :S

That's usually the first sign that what you are about to read is a load of crap and you should either A) ignore it and throw it in the trash, or my favorite, B) Find proof that it's crap, and forward that proof back to your friend and include everyone else they sent it to as well.

Nothing cures socially engineered spam better than socially engineered embarassment.

I think we all answered at the same time.

Excuses excuses...:P

and I was just telling them where to go check the story. I had no intention of making a clicky cause it takes me forever to look it up on how to do it and finally do it correctly. But a greenie not making a clicky is well, inexcusable, don't ya think.

I'd have to agree with Chopchop, I mean come on, they aren't running a charity, they are running a business. If they focused on every worthwhile charity out there instead of their business plan, they'd be in the tanker. -And really, I donate to several charities...but not all of them. Doesn't mean that I don't believe in their causes, I'm just stretched as thin as I can go, and I run a family first, donations are second. -Just my thoughts. ;)
