SkymonkeyONE 4 #51 December 15, 2003 I have been here for the past three iterations of the site and started regularly posting when all we had was Talkback, S&T, and G&R. I found it a much better place to post real questions and answer sincere questions. I was asked back then if some of my posts could be used on the main page, so I agreed. I already knew a lot of people on the boards, but this site has led me to many, many new friendships over the years. I have had incredible run-ins with faceless nemesis', most of which have turned into friendships after "real" meetings at meets and events. This is a fantastic site in the social aspect. It does, though, make me crazy sometimes with all it's political and religious tripe. Chuck

catfishhunter 2 #53 December 15, 2003 QuoteHmmm. Maybe I ought to go home then. QuoteAs I said before, I am a skydiver, and I post here because I wish to keep in touch with the skydiving world that I'm already a part of. There are others that are here because they wish to become a part of that world without actually jumping. So tell me now, are you here for the right reasons? If not, get out to your local dropzone, and start jumping. I'm not a skydiver. I make occasional skydives, but I really hang out at DZ.com because I feel that there is a lot of good information to be had here, that I can use to apply to my sport. Skydivers have already considered many of the issues we face, and sometimes the communication between the two sports is poor, so we end up re-inventing the wheel. I'd rather see somebody else's wheel first. Saying that this place ought to be for "skydivers only" would make as much sense as banning all skydivers from the BASE Board. I think I am here for the right reasons. But, sorry to ruin your "skydivers only" party by showing my face. I'm certainly glad that Sangiro doesn't share such a limited word view. isn't it strongly suggested that before you attempt base that you have 200 skydives ( or something like that?) in other words, you need to be a skydiver before you can become a base jumper? I have learned allot from reading your posts tom and I learned allot watching your accident on the discovery channel (impact survival) That was you right? All in all "your sport" base requires "our sport"skydiving as a pre-requiste. Why I am here. Knowledge. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. Everything we do should have a greater purpose.
Daizey 0 #54 December 15, 2003 I've wanted to jump ever since i was 15. While waiting to turn 18, I tried learning as much as I could about skydiving. When i was 17, my cousion introduced me to dz.com. I met so many people and learned so much. It was nice going into my first jump with all the knowledge i gained from here. Now I am midway through aff. I still learn so much from here and I have met soo many cool people. Everyone is so willing to help when anyone has a question and its great. I have also made some of the greatest friends I could find here. I'm not jumping right now due to injury, and dz.com is helping me from not going insane! There is not other place online that you can find so much info, so many great people, and so many great sources all in one place! *daizey*
lawrocket 3 #55 December 15, 2003 There are many reasons. First, as an 18 jump wonder who hasn't jumped in almost seven months (and for whom there is a legitimate chance that he will not jump for quite a while longer) I came onto this site to learn everything I could about the sport and, especially, risk management. Thank you billvon, aggiedave, ron, Shark and everyone. Frankly, I've found benefit in the inexperienced posters posting advice. Why? Because the explanations and advice, which typically sound good, are refuted with experience and logic when they are in error. Thus, we have a complete dialogue occurring, which is good. And, talk back can get me going! I also have no issue with people who have jumped once, and only once and never plan to jump again. What is wrong with that? And, there are plenty of people here who have stated that they never jump anymore, and will never jump again (or do not intend to). My wife is hotter than your wife. ACMESkydiver 0 #57 December 15, 2003 I found this site on a search for used gear, then forgot about it, until I was trying to figure out how to make a contact in Las Vegas to jump during my vacation (didn't work out, too windy anyways ). So Jeanne (Amazon) tells me to check this site to meet people at other DZ's, and now I'm hooked! I love reading the safety and training thread especially. And if I heard anything different on here than what I get from my coaches, I would absolutely check with them first...but being a newly licensed 'A', I just have wayyyyyyyyy more questions and curiosity then any coach would possibly have time for! I know anybody could really put anything at all on their User Profile, but I can feel those that speak from experience...and I always appreciate those that have been involved in skydiving forever-and-a-day being friendly and very helpful to an admitted amateur. Years from now when I have countless jumps and tons of experience, I want to model myself after these people. And I like the people on here! Great to laugh, share, and argue with. (In the 'Talk Back', I don't debate actual skydiving stuff...~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
Perky77 0 #58 December 15, 2003 I'm here for the chicks and the money!! I think I started posting on here when I had 15 to 20 jumps, of course I had 15 jumps in the first 2 weeks of my skydiving life. I stuck around trying to learn, and as time progressed it is really cool that you can go anywhere in this country and many places in the world and find skydivers that you meet on here, with the end result being bad ass boogies like we will have in a few short days. As far as, low timers / one timers and none jumpers posting, its cool as far as I am concerned as long as you don't make an annoyance out of yourself. Like the rules say, lurk a while and get a feel for things. After all, this is really HH's playground, he just lets us come hang out here. "Sacrifice is a part of life. It is supposed to be. oldnewbie 0 #65 December 17, 2003 I came here when I had just completed my "A" last year at Christmas time at Eloy. During the boogie last year, I was completing my A and one of my instructors said that I should go to dropzone.com. All of YOU looked like you were having so much fun last year at Eloy that I decided to see what was going on here. I could find information here that I had a difficult time finding anywhere else during the winter time. So I decided to join all of you!!!
