SkydiveNFlorida 0 #1 December 19, 2003 So, I print out a sugar cookie recipe, and walk to the printer to get it. The guard asks what it is I do when... I say, when what? ... he asks, well, when you're in there..? ? So, what is it that I do in here? I answered with "mainframe stuff". But, that just doesn't seem good enough. I guess I just make sure jobs run... the cpu is used as effectively as possible.. and run a few other small processes. And, i'm here incase the mainframes crash, and to prevent them from doing so by watching the aux storage and disc activity. But, really... there is so much downtime. But, someone has to do it... how can I make this sound more glamourous than "mainframe stuff", without sounding like a total geek?? Who, me? I play on computers, read books and do homework for a living... and now and then I do some work, too. Angela.

I wanna do homework for a living - I SO wish I was done with school so I could get a real job.... personally, I'd get 'geeky on 'em' and fill their head with all sorts of technical jargon - makes you seem more important that way Have a great holiday season! There's a reason why I got out of the IT world after a few years. 1. It sucked 2. It was driving me crazy due to high-stress, stupid people and shitty hardware/software combos.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Vertifly 0 #5 December 19, 2003 I work on systems too. If you want to get paid to do homework for a living, this may be the best kept secret of this field. For two years, I was reimbursed and paid to attend graduate school. If the numbers were added up and posted here, not many of you would probably believe it. I still work in the same place, but work is much more busy (and interesting) these days. Much to be said for timing in situations like this too. Good job SkydiveNFlorida! Yeah, but it isn't too often. I actually work better under stress. It's difficult to get me to work any other way, in fact. lol! Quoteooh ooh - can I have your job? please please please.... Nope, no way! This is too easy to give up. A coworker of mine went to school to be a legal assistant because she was sick of this job... well, that was two years ago. I laughed when she finished and told her she wouldn't quit cuz our job was too easy. I was right! QuoteFor two years, I was reimbursed and paid to attend graduate school. If the numbers were added up and posted here, not many of you would probably believe it. Yeah, I had them reimbursing me for a year, too. Then, I applied and got grants. The thing with re-imbursement is I felt locked in. If I didn't work for them at least one year after reimbursement then i'd owe them. With the grants, I don't have to pay back:D Granted i've been here 3+ years, so it isn't like I was gonna quit Although i've thought about it, it really isn't a smart move. Angela.
