Guest #1 December 18, 2003 Burt Rutan's space plane broke the sound barrier in flight testing yesterday. What a fitting cap to the Centennial of Flight. Story here. Paul Allen of M$FT is backing this initiative, it was also reported. If it had been Steve "Monkey Boy" Ballmer funding it, I would have been worried... mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." Swoopyswoop 0 #5 December 19, 2003 Yah it flew allright, and on final what happened? A partial mal on the landing gear causes it to crash and tear up the side of the aircraft. However since its a composite material mainly the damage can be easily repaired Scotty "when I die, I want to go like my grandfather while im sleeping, not like the passengers riding in the car with me Swoopster A.S.S. #6 Future T.S.S holder
Lee03 0 #6 December 19, 2003 Pretty cool project. The carrier plane, "White Knight" and "Spaceship One" are both weird looking designs, but then again, what design has Rutan ever built that wasn't somewhat weird looking! This being said, there ios NO WAY in Hell I'd want to be in that thing when they try to go into space on it! -------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule
Gawain 0 #7 December 19, 2003 Yeah, it was all the buzz with about 20 engineers from Northrop Grumman in Lancaster CA when I met with a Manager up there. The Mojave airport is pretty much right there next to Lancaster isn't it?So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! kallend 2,174 #8 December 19, 2003 I have a rocket plane Pic attached (It's radio controlled, flys on two F24 motors, weighs 14oz, reaches around 1000ft and then glides down....
