Zenister 0 #26 December 17, 2003 I hate people clapping/talking etc and so generally avoid the crowded times for exactly that reason..once i get the home theater set up i'll have no reason to go out for movies ever again, i'll invite those i want to see it with and we can have the experience the way the director intended without all the idiots interuptions..supension of disbelief is a rather important part of the theater atmosphere and its just continually broken by those with no respect for others around them... Quote I havn't read the Return of the Kings book your kidding right?? wow dude you need to buy the series for yourself for Xmas..the movies have been pretty good thus far (wont se RotK for a few weeks here) but i'd wouldnt give up the images and scenes the book created in my young mind for anything...i feel sorry for those who will now have hollywoods enforced (no matter how well done) influencing the creation between them and one of the wests greatest fantasy writers..____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. marcandalysse 0 #27 December 17, 2003 I was surprised when people clapped after a winning race in the seabisquit film.....but to me it shows the movie is doing its job working the audience emotions. Remember, in the days before big tv screens and dvds, the movies were an intensely social scene, people would dress up and share a moment together cheering on the hero or hissing at the bad guy... I saw Kill Bill and was the only one in the theater, and the vibe was definitely different! That's the fun of being in a huge dark space with a crowd of strangers, all laughing together crying together....I agree about the 'talking to the screen' comments and it seems to be a cultural thing... themitchyone 0 #28 December 17, 2003 QuoteJust saw the midnight showing and i fucking loved everything except all the stupid people clapping anytime anything even remotely dramatic happened god that annoys me!!! When you go to the midnight showing the clapping and cheering does get ridiculous. But, what can you expect... the theatregoers are mostly diehards. I went to the last Star Trek movie on opening day. The movie started late because the sound was broken and people were getting mad... and some were saying "sound-- engage." I was like was a bunch of trekkie nerds... but hey, I was there, too! ChasingBlueSky 0 #29 December 17, 2003 I was more annoyed with the very vocal/loud 18 year old kids that are of the "annoying, never shower" geek type that were all around us. I asked them to stop talking twice in the first 30 minutes....the third time I turned and told them they wouldn't want me to ask again....that worked. After the last fade to black into the credits the theatre sat quiet for a moment, then all broke out in applause. That wasn't bad at all_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... WrongWay 0 #32 December 17, 2003 I know!!! Here was the worst... I took a date to go see Matrix: Revolutions one of the first days it was out, so the theatre was PACKED, and during the big fight scene between Neo and Agent Smith, she sits up in her chair yelling "You can do it, Neo!!" Whoa, did I get some weird looks from that one.... But it's funny as hell now!! Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails. newsstand 0 #33 December 17, 2003 QuoteQuote Clapping, I don't mind so much. Talking to the screen...that gets annoying. It's when people start shooting at the screen that I get pissed off. You've never been to Rocky Horror, have you? Well Rocky Horror is a totally different thing. I was at it once and actually heard someone yell out "Some of us haven't seen this before." The folks that piss me off there are the loaners who have there own set of commentary for everything that happens on screen. "Truth is tough.
