lawrocket 3 #1 December 16, 2003 I don't know if I got the flu. I know a few people that have, and it hasn't been pleasant. I sure don't feel right, but I am not ruined like they have been. If you've had it, how long were you out? What were your symptoms. I've had a couple of people tell me that the flu caused them to get bad a bacterial infection that was worse than the flu. And what have you heard about this flu? There's concern that this flu may be the next flu pandemic. Know anyone hospitalized? Any tips for treatment or prevention? My wife is hotter than your wife. jmpnkramer 0 #2 December 16, 2003 QuoteAny tips for treatment or prevention Didn't you get the shot? I got mine back in October. It is either working really well or I have not been around enough sick people. I know that a few have gotten sick in my office already. All cases had not gotten the flu shot. Pretty silly since it is given in our office for free. I hope you do not get it. I have seen a couple of threads on here and people seem to be extra miserable this year. freeflir29 0 #4 December 16, 2003 I've just about got it beat. I woke up on Sunday Dec 7th (Must have been a Japanese Flu) feeling crappy. By 3 PM I was shivering and sweating at the same time. I went to sleep around 430 PM and did't get out of bed till 8 AM Monday. Went back to bed around 10 till about 12 noon. By Wednesday it had turned into more of a sinus cold but I still felt REALLY bad. It's the 10th day now and I still have a little crap in my sinus' but no more fever. Those first 3 or 4 days were HELL.
elfanie 0 #5 December 16, 2003 Had the flu...wasn't too too bad. Long...but not too horrible. (know it wasn't a cold by how quickly it came on, as well as the 103* fever) We don't beleive in the flu shot...so nobody in my family gets it. tips to preventing it or lessening it if you get it? Stay healthy...eat well, sleep enough, take care of your body and keep it as healthy and strong as you can. =) -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings
Nightingale 0 #6 December 16, 2003 I can't get flu shots. the side effects are too terrible. Badly inflamed muscle tissue to the point where I had my arm in a sling for a few weeks after getting one a few years ago. Same pattern with two different years of flu shots, so I've come to the conclusion my body just doesn't tolerate something in them very well, and I'd rather get sick than put up with not being able to fully use my arm for a month. Sick is only a few days, week max. My flu: tuesday approx 2 pm... started feeling achy. everything hurt. was thinking "my canopy landings weren't THAT bad yesterday! WTF??" Tired. cranky. at work and wanting to go home. tuesday approx 6 pm. temperature of 99.9. called mom, described symptoms, got advice on drinking lots of juice, taking tylenol, and got some sympathy. wednesday 4:30 am. alarm woke me up, felt like I'd been hit by a truck. large muscle groups HURT (quads, biceps, lats, etc) Fever of 102.5. called in sick. All day wednesday, fever went up and down from 99.0 to 102.9, depending on whether or not tylenol was wearing off. Ditto with thursday. No fever late thursday night. Dragged myself to work on friday. Should've stayed home, but I don't get sick pay, so this f-ing flu had already cost me $300 from not working. :( Doctor said if no fever, than not contageous anymore. Felt rotten all through the weekend, should've stayed home on monday to get a bit more rest, but again, no sick pay. its now over a week later. I still feel tired and run down. I did virtually nothing on saturday or sunday other than sleep. Last night, I got home from work at 6:30, and was in bed, asleep by 8. And, I wanna go back home and go back to sleep. I don't feel sick anymore, just very tired, like my body used up all its reserves fighting back to back food poisoning and then flu two days later, and I have absolutely no energy left... but, I lost 10 lbs. that's good, right? wouldn't be my ideal method of weight loss, but hey, I'll take what I can get. elfanie 0 #8 December 16, 2003 Quote tuesday approx 6 pm. temperature of 99.9. called mom, described symptoms, got advice on drinking lots of juice, taking tylenol, and got some sympathy. Eeep... I NEVER take anything to reduce a fever unless the fever itself is becoming dangerous. I, personally, wouldn't take anything to reduce a fever in ME unless it got to be above 104*...and even then, just enough to bring it back to around 103-104*. My kids I won't give them anything for a fever unless... 1. their fever reaches above 105*. or 2. they haven't been able to sleep and are still not able to sleep and the sleep has become a priority above allowing their body to fight what they have. (and then only enough to allow them to sleep) Most of the doctors I know recommend against taking anything to reduce a fever as it takes away your body's only defense against what is attacking it. My fever went up to 103* with this flu...but only lasted a day or so, so not too bad. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings
Nightingale 0 #9 December 16, 2003 Sorry... she'd advised tylenol if the fever spiked. not for a fever of 99. on wednesday and thursday, I was so dizzy from the fever that I couldn't get up to do basic stuff for myself like get a glass of water. My blood pressure is naturally on the low end of normal, so my doc's told me that I have a tendency to get very dizzy with a fever. I don't understand what one has to do wiht the other, but apparently there's some kind of connection. The tylenol made me feel well enough so I could at least get out of bed to take care of myself, get water, gatorade, juice, soup, etc... I live alone, so there isn't anyone else looking out for me. EdC 0 #10 December 16, 2003 I had the stomach version of the flu two weeks ago. It lasted about four days and I felt tired and weak for those four days. I just had to let it run its course and then I was feeling better. Now most of the people I work with have it and are passing it around amongst themselves. souleh 0 #12 December 16, 2003 I'm not sure.. It feels like it's starting. Saturday fine, sunday morning fell terrible. Migrane type headache, hot/cold shivers, temperature, throat etc. Like a cold but with a fever too. Monday the same, less throat but still fever. Today, slightly worse, and I havent had any bed rest other than a few hours sleep a night because tomorrow is hand in date for one of my major uni projects Typical, Christmas hols start tomorrow, and I'm ill. And I lost my job on saturday (and promptly felt crap the next day).. Ah well, could be worse I guess 'buttplugs? where?' - geno

misskriss 0 #14 December 16, 2003 Quote1. their fever reaches above 105*. Isn't that very high for a child? I have three kids and their fevers have never been that high, but I have had friends with small children that had febrile seizures from temps of 102, 103. I always give something to bring the fever down if it is above 100 but that's just me. edit.. Just had to look up what Dr. Sears said. I guess I do panic when their little heads feel so warm. He did say not to treat a low grade fever and to treat the child not the fever. So, maybe I'll wait till it gets to 101, 102 before using something to bring it down. Dragontail 0 #22 December 16, 2003 Woke up Saturday congested and feeling crappy. I checked my temperature Monday and it was 101+. Checked it later that night and it went to 102+. This morning it was 100.8 before I took meds. Just woke up from a nap and my temperature was normal but I still don't feel well. I imagine I'll be back to work tomorrow. So, I'd say this has lasted 4 days so far. I don't think I'm out of the woods yet though. I keep reading about these secondary infections.
