A flock o' probes is about to have a close encounter with Mars, led by the UK's Beagle 2 lander, scheduled to touch down on Christmas Eve, followed shortly thereafter by ESA's Mars Express, and NASA's Spirit probe. As always, your mileage may vary, since Mars probes have a success rate of less than 33% since flights began in the 1960s.
