Nightingale 0 #1 December 19, 2003 I've spent the last three weeks trying to figure out a way to get back in the sky. This is the longest I've ever gone without jumping. I've finally found a way, and can jump tomorrow if I want to. and I'm absolutely terrified. not just scared, but hands shaking, heart pounding terrified. and I have no freakin' clue why. Right now, I'm honestly not sure what's stronger... my desire to get up there and jump, or my fear of doing just that.
Kramer 0 #2 December 19, 2003 I'll be your best friend and give you a dollar if you go jump tomorrow. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!
ZoneRat 0 #3 December 19, 2003 Guess you can find out tomorrow... Hey. You faced down those fears before. You can do it again. I'd bet money on it. (And I aint much of a bettin' man). Besides...You're a hell of a lot more knowlegeable than the first time. Might not even be as much fear, but worried anticipation. Go ahead and take a drive to the DZ. I've read your posts... You're good for it. ((((calming vibes)))) “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”
skymick 0 #4 December 19, 2003 QuoteRight now, I'm honestly not sure what's stronger... my desire to get up there and jump, or my fear of doing just that. If you ever want to jump again you are going to have to face these fears at some point and the longer you leave it the worse it could get. Anyway if you dont jump tomorrow then you'll be miserable all week wishing that you did. I was out of the sky for 6 months due to injury and lately even thinking about makking a jump had me shit scared but once I got the the DZ and decided I would jump all those fears disappeared and I am so glad I decided to do it, otherwise I reckon I'd be feeling pretty shit right now
skybytch 273 #5 December 19, 2003 Jump tomorrow, fear be damned! The butterflies will likely be with you right up until you exit the plane; the permagrin will last for a day or so after you land.
 vonSanta 0 #6 December 19, 2003 Go jump. You'kk not regret it. You've overcome your fears in the past - and you'll do so now. And asSkyBytch said, yer gonna have a permagrin on yer face after you've done it. All the fear/nervousness disappears once you leave the brain and the fear part of your mind goes "oh screw you, I'm outta here" Go jump and have fun. I might get to jumpo on Monday, if it doesn't snow. Been 7-8 weeks since the weather was good enough/had a pilot that could fly. I'm gonna be nervous too, but I'll get over it, just as you will. We spoke about this yesterday, didn't we? We talked about fear, and what it is - nothing but an emotion which can be surmounted. We talked about the door, and that it's only 2 inches deep...2 inches keeps you from your dream. We talked about saying, "yes, fear, I know you're here, but I am in charge, and I'm going to play in the sky." We talked about going solo, and how big the sky gets, and how small we get. And we talked about the exhilaration and the joy you find in the sky; the freedom, the accomplishment, the amazement that you know is waiting beyond those two inches... Who runs this show? YOU do, not your fear. Who runs your life? YOU do, not your fear. Who makes your decisions? YOU do, not your fear. Do that which you know you need to do to stay safe...and then let the rest go. Let the rest just leave, like the tide rushing out...and go play under a bright sun, dance in a blue sky, and find yourself again on the ground. Sweetheart, face it. Fight, flight or flow, honey; flow with it. and then call me when you're done - I'll be waiting to hear the exhilaration in your voice. Hugs to you. I needed that. Heading out to Perris now...
 Nightingale 0 #10 December 20, 2003 sigh. Ok. I went out to Perris. Was going to borrow Michele's gear. Rosa brought it out. It didn't fit. :( so, no jumping for me yesterday. If I rented gear, by the time I'd have gotten it all hooked up and packed, I wouldn't have had time to jump. I have a little bit of cash today, enough for one jump on student gear at elsinore. I get all ready to go, and walk outside. LOW CLOUDS! D'oh! I call Elsinore to see if they're jumping. Nope. Too cloudy to get to altitude. I call Perris on the off chance they might be jumping. Nope. FUBAR. So, I finally get over my fear and was going to jump, and was really, really excited about jumping again, and the weather gods hate me! AAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!! Does anyone else see the irony in this? I did AFF and yeah I was nervous...but last jump I did, whcih was about 2 weeks ago I suddenly got really scared under canopy, no reason, nothing bads had happened on the jump....I was just panicing. Anyway that was the only jump I could do that day and now I am home from uni for a month, so everytime I think about jumping I get all nervous... Only way I can see to get over it is to jump again soon...I have also watched some videos about every aspect of skydiving and I have unpacked and re-packed my rig (not that I needed to, just maybe to sort my head out) So I am with you on this one, I know where ur coming from and its totally weird...but if I can do it then so can you... Lets be brave together! )))))))))))GOOD VIBES COMING YOU WAY!(((((((((((( Love beth xxx------------------------------------------------------------ "This isn't flying...it's falling with style!" I get the same way a little but once your out that door, it all comes back just like riding a bike! Make a jump with a friend you feel comfortable with. That might take your mind off the anxiety. Just remember the parachute worked the 14 times before and odd are it will work again. Have someone review things with you like emergency procedures, landings, etc. to make you feel more comfortable. Hope this helps a little. These are some of the things I do when I get the gitters.
