NZL60 0 #3 December 23, 2003 hey - ya got the specs for the motherboard handy? That'll tell ya what ya can and can't do.. what's the full brand/make of yer puter or is it a hybrid build ya did? Who said Kiwis can't fly?
Blahr 0 #4 December 23, 2003 Check the motherboard manufacturer's website for specs on what kind of memory you need. (If you dont have the manual already) THEN go to www.pricewatch.com and find it cheap somewhere. Last time I was looking for memory it was pretty cheap. I see 256 MB RDRAM on there now for just over 2 jumps. Er...I mean $44.
Zenister 0 #5 December 23, 2003 Quoteand how do I tell if I need ECC or NON ECC? ECC is error correction and in most cases doesnt make a significant difference, however all you RAM should be one or the other..mixing them is bad juju...____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. Blahr 0 #10 December 23, 2003 so buy 2 128 MB RIMMS (assuming that you have 2 available slots) KEep in mind that if you leave any slots empty you must put terminators in them. This is one PITA about Rambus memory.
Blahr 0 #11 December 23, 2003 I see 128 MB RDRAM for $28.00 a pop so for $56.00 you can get 256 more. I'm assuming that you (if you currently have 256 installed) that you have 2 128's installed and 2 free slots. This could well be a dumb assumption but if it is indeed the case, then you are in pretty good shape. If, instead, you have 4 64's you will likely need to replace 2 of them in which case adding 256 would only bring you up to
ChasingBlueSky 0 #12 December 23, 2003 I never supported RIMMs and glad they are going away.... make sure to check www.pricewatch.com for the best prices on computer parts._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... So I trot off to buy 2 sticks of 256.. get home pop open the case.. Low and behold only 2 slots period... So to upgrade I need to buy 1 or 2 sticks of 512.. Anyways becareful and make sure you have enough slots to upgrade with or you'll be replacing like I have too..
