frontloop33 1 #1 February 20, 2011 Hi! I'm looking for a new gear. I'm pretty sure about the main- and reserve canopy. What I haven't decided yet is the container. I want to start (after learning to belly-fly) with freeflying and then maybe try a wingsuit. Is there anything special, I need to consider when buying the container? Is there any model / manufacturer, that is better than the rest? If I look at the gear-review, all containers seem to be ok/good. If there is no special recommendation, I would prefer a German manufacturer, because of easier and maybe faster shipping (or getting replacements parts), because I am from Germany. GLIDEANGLE 1 #3 February 20, 2011 I think the issue is more one of what features you want/need rather than good brand / bad brand. I would look for a rig which had: •Reserve static line •BOC throw - out PC (if you want to wingsuit) •Perhaps a freefly pud handle. •AAD compatible •Set up for leg-strap bungee for freefly. •Strongly consider main assisted reserve deployment (MARD). Examples are Skyhook on VEctor, Javelin, and Icon; and possibly the "Air Anchor" which Strong announced would soon be available on Quasar rig.The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others! DocPop 1 #5 February 20, 2011 Bearing in mind GLIDEANGLE's excellent comments..... .....get whatever you can find second hand at a good price to fit your first canopies. You are going to want a new container in a couple of hundred jumps anyway most likely. Worry about getting a new one then."The ground does not care who you are. labrys 0 #6 February 21, 2011 Quoteget whatever you can find second hand at a good price to fit your first canopies. Perhaps not the best advice here. If he wants to freefly and wants to consider a second-hand rig, he needs to make sure that the rig is suitable for freeflying. Glideangle's suggestions are a good start, but don't include some other considerations for freeflying like appropriate riser covers, solid pin and bridle protection, etc. Not all second hand rigs have all that.Owned by Remi #? DocPop 1 #7 February 21, 2011 You are correct, of course. I wanted to caution against wasting money on a new container for the first rig, but my answer was not well thought out."The ground does not care who you are. frontloop33 1 #8 February 21, 2011 Hi! I do not want to discuss second hand rigs. It seems to be impossible to find second hand rigs in Germany that are not way to expensive. So I'm also happy with a new one. Question still is, if there are any freefly-features that prevent the rig from being used as a wingsuit-rig. Throw-out: of course RSL/Skyhook: Maybe, i'm not really sure about that. Do I need it for wingsuits? Freefly-handle: would be good for freeflying but for wingsuit? But thats a thing that could be changed later. AAD: of course leg-strap-bungee: what's that?
dragon2 2 #9 February 21, 2011 Quote Question still is, if there are any freefly-features that prevent the rig from being used as a wingsuit-rig. No. However the legstrap bungee that you need for freefly needs to be detachable if you want to fit a wingsuit around it, that or you need to be good @ threading and knotting bungees But you still have a number of jumps to go before you can wingsuit so don't worry about this small issue yet, just get the bungee. ciel bleu, Saskia
adventurechick 0 #10 February 21, 2011 Velocity Sports Equipment makes the Infinity container. You can get dynamic corners, chest mounted hook knife, longer bridle, and larger Pilot Chute. The only option of those that you will be charged for is the dynamic corners. VSE is in the US, not Germany, but thought I'd give some info! Hope this helps! www.velocityrigs.com
