sarge 0 #1 December 23, 2003 My USB will not set-up because apparently I need the second edition windows 98. Dammit! Is there somewhere I can just download it without having to buy the disc and stuff? Any ideas? THANKS-- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!! AggieDave 6 #2 December 23, 2003 Dude, stay the fuck away from 98se. Just go to XP (or 2000). Win 98se is one of the most unstable OSs they've ever put out (well, Win ME is worst, but that doesn't count).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." CrazyIvan 0 #3 December 23, 2003 Just an FYI, Microsoft DISCONTINUED support for Win98 a couple of weeks ago. You better upgrade to XP.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
PhillyKev 0 #4 December 23, 2003 Try the MS website. They might have a patch you can download that will allow your USB to work.
sarge 0 #5 December 23, 2003 Well thats just great guys! Damn! I tried loading this usb driver for my new camera and it won't work because it says I need the se version to run the program...! AndyMan 7 #6 December 23, 2003 Micorosft has discontinued support for 98, I would recomend an upgrade to XP home. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
Chute 0 #7 December 23, 2003 MS no longer does support for 98 and earlier. But only way to get a free copy is to find someone that is on to BETTER things. I.E. XP.Bottomless Beers and Blue Skies! * Brother_Brian * D.S.W.F.S.B. #

murrays 0 #9 December 23, 2003 I bought the WIN98SE upgrade a while back hoping to be able to use my USB peripherals on my Windows laptop.....well, it was a complete waste of money. Take AggieDave and Ivan's advice and get a better version of Windows ....hopefully your computer will handle a more recent OS. If you were running WIN98, I assume your machine is getting rather old. You might just be better off shopping for a new machine.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
sarge 0 #10 December 23, 2003 I've never had any other use for this lappie than basic stuff. I have no multi-media experience and well, I was just hoping to figure out a way to get this hardware to just work. Can I just download the XP somewhere? .-- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!!

hookitt 1 #12 December 23, 2003 I was going to say your machine is probably very antiquated but murrays already mentioned it. It may not even run XP. What computer is this? jceman 1 #19 December 23, 2003 QuoteMicorosft has discontinued support for 98, I would recomend an upgrade to XP home. _Am Almost right, Andy -- MS is discontinuing support for Win 98, with the exception of SE effective 16 January 2004; this is due to their settlement with the JAVA folk back in 2001. SE support will continue for the foreseeable future. BTW, I agree Win98 is unstable, but I ran Win98SE for several years on my desktop and have had it running with no problem on my laptop since 1999. I'd offer you my disk, Doug, but I see you already have had one offered; that laptop of yours should run just fine with it, but is not powerful enough for XP. sdgregory 0 #20 December 23, 2003 I have used SE ever since it came out and I still use it. I have no problems with it. It very rarely crashes (about once every 3-4 months) and I refuse to spend another dime on another MS product until 98 makes my machine completely blow up and send shrapnel into my face. I can play all my games on 98. Use all of my programs on 98 and do all the things I like to do. However, there are a butload of programs and games I have that just will not play on XP. Damn Bill Gates. I hope he gets a boil on his ass.
