happythoughts 0 #1 December 24, 2003 clicky so you dont think I made this up QuoteJOHANNESBURG, South Africa (Reuters) - A former Miss South Africa has been attacked by a wild hippopotamus and bitten on the leg, local media reported on Wednesday. Media reports said Diana Tilden-Davis, Miss South Africa 1991 and a runner up in the 1991 Miss World contest, was attacked while canoeing in the Okavango Swamps of neighboring Botswana and was airlifted to Johannesburg's Milpark hospital. Quote Earlier this month, another South African woman was killed by a hippo while she and her husband were on their honeymoon in Botswana. I suspect it is in retaliation for this

freeflir29 0 #3 December 24, 2003 Hippos are the #1 killer of tourists in Africa. I got to listen to a HILARIOUS story from a friend about gathering water while in Africa. One guy getting the water.....5 more standing around with M-60's looking for Hippos.
happythoughts 0 #4 December 24, 2003 They are pretty territorial. They stay in calmer areas of rivers where white water rafting is going on. They are known to flip rafts. Seems like that was happening in Kenya.

goose491 0 #8 December 24, 2003 I beleive it. Hippoes are like hazzard number one in those parts. People often get attacked when crossing rivers and such at night as they are so hard to spot. People know well enough to steer clear of 'em when they do see 'em. They're CRAZY agressive and territorial. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
happythoughts 0 #9 December 24, 2003 A bunch of the S. Africans are here for the winter. They could have brought one for the swoop pond. It would add that element of danger to an otherwise safe and dull sport.
