video/dvd conversion... need help

Recommended Posts

hello my wonderful dz.commers!

merry christmas!!!!! i hope everyone found COOL stuff under the tree this morning.

i need help.

my brother lives in Moscow, Russia. he recently got married there. we all missed his wedding. he made us a dvd of the ceremony and gave my parents a copy for Christmas.

Russia apparently has a different DVD format that I an unfamiliar with. It won't play on a regular dvd player or on the computer.

how can i convert it? are there companies that do this? does anybody know?

any help or suggestions would be wonderful. my parents are anxiously awaiting. :P

thanks a bunch and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

blue skies,
liz

Merry Christmas. I think he send it to you in PAL format.

merry chrismas from bonnie Scotland!!
From my workplace (drew the short straw, why did I choose a job in the newspaper industry) and why, for that matter do people crave newspapers on boxing day anyway!!

You may wish to try versiontracker.com, there are utils for region changing of your DVD drive in your computer.
If it's PAL (more than likely) you need to set to region 2

good luck and all the best :)

just had a further thought..

If you can't find anything, rather than shelling out for transfer, I could ship you out a muli region DVD player from over here, they're ridiculously cheap and will play almost anything!!

You might try to change the regional code on your DVD player.

On most players, you can go into set up and change the regional code. But you can only do this a couple times before it sticks to one.... not sure how that works, it's what someone told me once. You can try to change the code, and change it back when you are done.

Might work anyway

Wow. Thank you soooooo much everybody for your responses. They are so helpful.

I thought it might be PAL, but I wasn't sure... and my brother had no idea at all. :P

I tried to change the DVD player to Region 2, but it wasn't an option in the Setup menu.

Next, I'm going to try to change the computer settings.

The idea for getting a multi-version dvd player is great too! I think I'll wait and do that as a last resort.

Again, thanks so much. This should definately help. :)
Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!

btw... it's snowing a LOT outside! B|

happy jumping everyone!

Multiregions are less commum in the US, but I can vouch that the Philips DVD players you can buy at Walmart can be remote-hacked to Multiregion very easily. CAD$ 218 for pro scan. It doenst help you for computer based players, but you never know....
